This morning for no reason my horn just stopped working, I checked the fuses and they were all good. I turned my steering wheel and the horn started working, but when I straightened it back out it stopped working. it works when i turn the steering wheel atleast 1/4 of a turn each way but doesnt when the steering wheel is straight. anyone know what the issue might be?

Clock spring. Also feeds the airbag, so may be under warranty still, check your book.

Edit: LOL. Jimmy and I are two for two!

my clockspring has gone out twice...once for the airbag portion and the other for the cruise control. it just went out one day.
is your truck part of the recall?

That sounds like it might be the issues, not sure if its part of the recall at all. Where can i find out if it is so that i can get it taken care of?

toyota should have sent you a recall letter for it...
i dont think that any truck 10 and newer was involved in the recall tho, not too sure.

the part alone is like $300-$350 iirc, and toyota charges like 4 hours to about $400...its not hard to do the swap...just takes time to remove everything and place the new clockspring in correctly

Whatever is on your steering wheel will be affected...
Steering wheel controls, horn, airbag and cruise

no what is that that all is connected internally in clockspring lol
certain things may still work but they can go out eventually...or can malfunction like the airbag

The clockspring has I think 12 wires in it. Yours has the wire for the horn ground broken. Over time you will probably have other wires break which will effect other parts...

OP, the warranty on "restraint systems" on an '11 is 5yrs or 60,000. My horn just stopped working too, and it seems like the clockspring would be the problem, as the horn will work when the wheel is turned, but it won't when going straight down the road. I just hope the clockspring is part of "restraint systems".

Now that the horn isn't working, I really miss it. Too many people texting at stoplights.
