I was taking all of the fuses out to check that none were blown, I took the horn fuse out (not knowing) it was the horn fuse, and when I checked it and put it back in, the horn started blaring and wouldn’t start until I took the fuse out of disconnected the battery terminal. I tried pressing on the steering wheel but nothing I did turned the horn off. Has this happened to anyone? The horn worked fine before I took the fuse out.

No alarm system that I know of. I don’t even have an electric key fob.

I’m not exactly sure how the mechanism works. But if it was working before I pulled the fuse, would that mechanism fail coincidentally? Or is it connected to the wiring?

I’m not sure. The clockspring is a spiral cable that allows electrical wiring to pass through your steering column whilst allowing a rotary action.

These commonly go bad and is usually the cause of a faulty airbag or horn.

The clock spring is $280, I think I’ll try and find a way to ensure that’s a problem before dropping that sort of money.

    Check Build thread
Physically tap the horn on the steering wheel a few times and see if it stops once the fuse is in

I had my girlfriend pound on it while I connected the battery to the terminal. Maybe she didn’t hit it hard enough? :)

I can`t see the Clock Spring deciding to fail just as the OP was removing and reinstalling fuses as the Horn worked just fine.

Not that it might have failed right then.

The horn switch just completes the circuit to ground for the relay coil pulling the horn relay contacts closed .

Unless the horn circuit changed that much between 2000 and 2002

Maybe a better question is why did you think you had a Open Fuse just what was not working ??

I agree, relay check- could be stuck open.

Clock spring can wear out over time, but normally people have issues when doing a steering shaft change and over rotating the wheel without knowing the original number of rotations.

Why were you checking fuses in the first place? For what problem? Maybe the two issues are related.

There was no problem, I was just checking them all to ensure they were in good condition as I had recently bought the truck.

Ahhhh. And did the horn work before you pulled the fuse?
Kind of thinking PO may have had fuse jimmied.

You know, I was wondering that myself. I don’t specifically recall ever blowing the horn but I think I must have.

reviving an old thread. If the clockspring was the issue, would that effect the cruise control? The cruise control works. I finally got around to checking the relay and it works fine. Its either the clockspring or some other thing im missing.
