I want to share my experience today with my local dealer. Sorry for the long story. My truck started having a whining noise under the hood a few weeks ago, that was rpm related. The other night while driving, I heard the sound of mud slinging off the tires in the wheel wells. I thought nothing of it, as i had just pulled out of a dirt lot. Well, the sound continued at a stop light for a few seconds, but then stopped. I also got a brief burning smell through the vents. So I knew it wasn't just mud flinging in the wheel wells. It all stopped, and The truck seemed normal otherwise, no idiot lights etc and I was only 0.5 miles from home, so I just limped it at 20 mph home. I popped the hood, looked in, and saw that my serpentine belt was chewed up, and i was leaking a good amount of oil. So the sound was chunks of belt flying around. So, the oil leak ended up being a bad front crank seal, and I had 3 worn idler pulleys, hence the whining sound. It all got fixed today. I have had one problem with this dealer in the past (they left a grease stain on my seat, and the next oil change was on the house due to that). I asked them this time to PLEASE not stain my brand new $500 wet okole seats that I just got. Well, I got the truck back today, only to have grease stains all over my driver seat, and door handle. Ontop of that, I popped my hood, and saw that they forgot to bolt on/secure my engine cover. At this point i'm paranoid if they even put oil back into my engine, as they also changed my oil. After One very angry phone call with the manager, i brought it back, had the tech come outside to bolt the cover on, check the oil and work over, and i got half my money back for the whole job. I just spent an hour scrubbing my seat, and will have to see how it looks once it dries, but i think i did pretty good cleaning it. I will be taking my business elsewhere for now on. 20191008_133420.jpg 20191008_131735.jpg 20191008_145209.jpg

annnnnnnd this is reason #98479387495834098 why I dont let anyone but me (so long as i have the tools and skill) to work on my truck.... VERY few things so I let others touch my truck for.

Id be PISSED about the seat covers... that stated i ALWAYS put a big beach towel in the driver seat when i do have to take it to the tire shop (thats really the only place that gets my truck... everything else i do myself)

Sounds like your gripe is more with the mechanic than the dealership. Did you want free service for two nuts not being replaced on an engine cover? In reality the only thing you had a real issue with is the grease on your seat covers. If they didnt come clean then yeah they need to fix it but you say it looks like you got them clean. They gave you 50% off on a service that sounds like it cost upwards of $600 or more. I will also point out that you have had a previous instance where service left you with oil on your seat yet you took it in with your new seat covers. If I was dumb enough to spend $500 on seat covers I would have a $40 pair from Pep Boys to slide on when it was going in for repairs, especially after having dealt with it once before. There are enough people experiencing real financial loss from dealership nonsense to fill a forum. Yours wouldnt be included. Quit sweating the small stuff. You got a large repair done for half price for the labor of cleaning some seat covers.

While I will tend to agree with you. I think what the OP is getting at is the fact that there is ZERO detail to work / respect of others vehicles here.

He should be praising the dealership for rebating him $300+ for such minor things not bashing them.

While 300 bucks back is good, the dealership is responsible for their mechanics. And they made a mess of his truck, that’s on them, not him. He shouldn’t have to tell them don’t get grease all over my truck. The dealership is getting what they deserve.

Your dealer should be putting down a floor mat and a seat cover when they check you in. Not the techs fault.

I also make sure to let them know to document That i do not want a wash thru their car wash...which means the the tech will bring it up when finished.
So I also make them document on the RO to ask the tech to take his gloves off before getting in the vehicle.
Ask me how I know to do that :annoyed:

Mechanics at dealerships are not supposed to mess up your vehicle, period! Get off the Op's ass. I'm with him. The dealership now has to deal with the sloppy mechanic.

I would never let you work on or drive my vehicles. You obviously have no concept or respect for other's property.

    You should always expect it.

I go to the drive-thru taco shop and I order my rolled tacos with sour cream on the side. because I fucking hate sour cream. But the warden, she likes sour cream so I get it on the side to make her happy.
I say it in English...I say it in Spanish..I say it when I tell them my order, I say it again when I confirm my order, I ask them again when they hand me my order.
And when I sit down to eat my rolled tacos, there it is right there on the top, every fucking time, the sour cream.

    I don’t throw a fit, I just don’t order rolled tacos anymore.
I shouldn’t expect Nordstrom level customer service at the taco shop, and the dealer is no different

I agree with the OP. Grease all over your vehicle is a clear indication of sloppy work. This same scenario happened on my boat. Pissed me off.

We are paying $100 per hour for their services so keep my stuff clean and be careful.

And this is the issue I have with our society. Let’s just expect shitty service and get ripped off.

Oh and I fucking hate sour cream, and I get my orders are with that nasty shit, if not, then I GET MY ORDERS WITH OUT THAT SHIT. I am very clear and have returned my food a few times.

I once had a hyundai a few years back, oil change done and when I got back in the car noticed a big smudge on my seat. I mentioned it to them, they immediately took it to detail who removed it and I got a free oil change. I was happy and continued to use them.

Also, some people don't have the knowledge/tools/room/time to work on their own vehicles. I need to find a good dealership in Tacoma, WA area.

Yeah you clearly have zero care for anything in the world. "Tech crashed my car while doing a test drive. But I just sucked it up. It's not the dealerships fault. I'll just contact my insurance and hopefully my rates wont go up" type of guy.

A few years back, I had a similar thing happen when I got new tires. The tech got my door panel arm rest really dirty. I very calmly asked him to come out and take a look at it. He made an excuse that it's hot and the guys are sweaty, etc. I said, I get it but I don't care. They know they are dirty as hell so don't treat it like your recliner at home, just don't touch anything you don't have to.
I got it clean, and the truck was pretty old at the time, but I take good care of it so I don't want it trashed up by some inconsiderate tech.
I just can't change my own tires.

Every time I order coffee at Dunkin Donuts I ask for a “Large coffee with extra cream, that’s it”. Every single time they ask me if I want sugar. “What the fuck did I just say?” Large coffee, extra cream, that’s it. “You sure you want no sugar?” What the fuck is their obsession with sugar?

Also, OP don’t take a used Tacoma or new Tacoma to the dealer, they suck. If you do, drink all of their coffee (no sugar).
