Are you sure your odometer's not set to miles instead of kilometers?

I'd say It's geared to maximize towing and grunt work potential. There's always a trade off so ultimately highway mileage suffers. Sure it could use a 7th gear but, with a little gettin' used to, its actually pretty fun to drive. I'd even dare to say that in the city, with rev matching, some fancy shiftin', and odd gear changes, I can do just as well mileage wise as the auto...Probably better. ;)

I bet there's a few manual 6 speed drivers out there who would agree.

Either way I still love the truck and once the lift is done and the mud terrains get slapped on my mpg will be shot anyway. Looks like when that all happens I will be looking for the Honda Civic Commuter mod! LOL

I drive a '12 Si coupe. Fuel economy is about what people are reporting the Tacoma gets. And it only takes premium. Granted its not the regular Civic, but even my last two Civics (05, 07) got well under the reported fuel economy ratings. Leading me to believe that the fuel economy ratings are mostly wishful thinking and gauged in magical fairy land unrealistic lab settings unachievable by the average driver.

So long as my Tacoma treats me better than my 08 Dodge Ram (Crapausaurus) I will be happy. Only two more long months of waiting... May 6th build date...

It is really easy to achieve epa if you don't exceed the speed limit, on any vehicle.

There have been some interesting reports lately, including a good one I read a few weeks ago in The Guardian about how auto makers skew their results through bogus testing and cheating to achieve higher ratings than possible. Like taping all crevices, doors, folding mirrors in etc. Apparently new testing standards are soon to be adopted, including in the USA that will stop these practices.

Not to argue, but I feel they should simply be taken as an optimistic guideline.

In the U.S. they did that a year or two ago? Resulted here in CA in all prius's except all electric being disqualified for free carpool lane passes. lol

More realistic MPG calcs = less manufacturer fudge factors.

Ah - you're right. The Canadian websites do use Imperial gallons. I didn't realize that. Sorry - my mistake there.

But still, my point stands about the claimed mileage. The 4x4 Ford with the base V6 says 17.7 US MPG city, 24.5 highway, and that will rarely happen in real-world driving. The Ecoboost is a little worse (16.7/24.5), the 5l 15.7/22.2. Toyota claims the Taco will get 18.2/24.5.

The OP did quote US MPG, so we're not off the rails here. :)

I did quote gallons for my American friends. All my data is coming right off my Fuelly App.

Very fun, I personally feel the the new engine is an improvement ;)

Of course the fuel economy sucks when I drive it fast and furious, but I've noticed that driving conservatively and in the low end, I still see rather poor fuel economy. Still pretty decent overall though I suppose.

Average driving in the city with my automatic v6 access cab I get 13mpg, I feel somethings wrong. I think I speed though. Next fill up im goona force myself to drive the speed limit. and see if that improves. But I dont see how people are getting 20mpg. Theres no way I could ever improve my driving that would give me an additional 3-400km a tank
