Horrific battle with transmission pan

Reviving this.... Hey did you ever figure out if that part number for the pan gasket was correct for 3.4L V6? What did you end up doing? I'm about to do my trans filter, gasket, fluid change and want to know if the oem gasket 35168-22011 will work, or if i need to do FIPG/RTV. Thanks!

 

I rebuild transmissions for a living . All transmission rebuild kits come with a cork gasket and I use cork on a daily basis for every transmission I fix .
With this being said , Formed in place gaskets ( silicone ) will get you by , but if you are going to have the pan off for the next transmission service , why not use a cork gasket and save yourself some time from scraping all that crap off the aluminum transmission casing .
For the broken pan bolts , soak them every day for 2 weeks prior to dropping the pan in the best penetrating fluid you can get .aluminum is porous and lubricant will eventually seep through
I use General motors heat riser lubricant .dont get that stuff in your eyes . Probably the best penetrating fluid on the planet

For the stubborn bolts , I heat the aluminum surrounding the seized pan bolt to almost melting hot and then slowly work the bolt loose
Drilling and tapping is not an enjoyable task for anyone .
Purchase stainless bolts when you are re-installing the transmission pan and coat them with never seize . If you are keeping your truck , the next time you take the pan off , the bolts are going to come out

 

This makes me feel a little better about absolutely raping my oil filter over 4 hours during a routine oil change lol.
