All your points are valid, but in this age not as many horses are used for work (rather they're pets or used for racing).

Me. I still say they're just animals and don't see the big deal.

Remember, you can't have slaughter without "laughter"

I slaughter n00bs on BF3...but it'd take a greater man than myself to work at a slaughter house.

not as many but there are still a lot of work horses. all those cattle farms, a good bit still use horses. im just stating the original uses, if we didnt have all the technology, horses would still be needed for work, cows, chickens and pigs cant do it. thats why they werent used for food, because they helped provide for the family

I think horses are beautiful animals, with that said I love to see cows too. I love to go to farms and state fairs and pet cows. A calf , adorable. With that said, I still love a good steak. Also I eat Veal, and have you ever see how they treat the calves to get veal? It in a way could be considered torture. Tied up with there heads only sticking out of a "dog house" of sorts so they can't move to keep the meat tender. But I love the shit! So will I eat a horse? I will never say never. I have had Buffalo too, delicious! Also a beautiful animal. But I don't really think its wrong to kill to eat. Why let them go to waste to the glue factories!

I'd be fine with going back to an age when we used horses and didn't have vehicles

They use machinery, it's just pulled by horses. I saw them pull a shit-thrower a few days ago with 4 horses.

    invalid argument.

pigs are extremely intelligent animals (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/10/science/10angier.html) and can be trained/figure out how to do any number of things including herding cattle:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc0fY3BstdU

    and saving their owners life:

    http://210.5.43.242/news/7108-pig-saves-owners-life

and those examples don't even include instances where the pig was trained:

That defunding occurred in 2006 if I'm not mistaken.....so am I correct in saying that horse slaughter for human consumption was going on before that? Funny I don't remember there being a huge controversy over this when it was legal before. :notsure: Anyone know why Congress defunded the inspections in the first place?

I grew up around the race horse industry, (my grandparents raised throughbreads) I could see a horse that doesn't race well sold off to the slaughterhouse. Or horses that are older can't be bread, ect. ppl won't want to care for them so they sell them off. I guess if you grow up around it you feel different about it. Although our ranch was surrounded by cattle ranches. And ppl in China and Korea eat dogs so whatever.

Anyone gonna see Speilbergs latest tear jerker "War Horse"?

i was only referring to your comments:

"a pig is not going to herd a cow"

"it's not going to save your life"

and if by "pet" you mean it wasn't treated as part of a herd, in a production-driven scenario and left to just eat and root in a field or on a large scale farm then yes, it was most certainly given some individual attention. but i would make the argument that any number of species has an intelligence level that is unrealized when they are treated as a production animal vs. a "pet" and especially pigs, can be trained to do a lot of the things that dogs, horses...working animals can do. granted they may have physical limitations compared to horses or dogs but they are definitely at the same level if not higher when it comes to intelligence.

i could also post a bunch of stuff that a trained cow could do (simple google search)... and yes it has probably been treated more like a pet as you said... but its not doing anything that any other cow couldn't do if cared for as a pet

true, this could go on forever im just sayin a pig isnt going to be able to work like a horse, but this is also from the old days, which doesnt apply so much now a days,a pig wont be able to carry you around all day either.

people still fox hunt too, which is a big sporting gig where its popular, no way in hell a pig could that. fox hunting was by far one of the craziest things ive ever done.
