We ought to start a new thread that includes ALL diecast brands other than Hotwheels, so we can go nuts posting up pics. Think it'd go?

I thought a new thread would prevent us from taking derek's Hotwheels subject too far out of whack-but since we already did, it'd be nice if he'd give us the blessing of a topic change so we can continue?

@MTgirl this thread has come back to life and the OP is long gone, I don’t know if thread ownership can still be changed but if possible could you change the title to read “Diecast collectors” please.

    Thank you.

Damn williams63 it's VeeWee heaven over there! Do you own a real one? My dad had one in '65 and I remember that little thing was tough in the snow with studded snow tires! Anyway the only VeeWees I have in my entire collection are that previous Beachbomb Hotwheel and these Matchboxes-the blue Beetle is from '98 and the two 1600TL fastbacks are from '67.

yes I have a 63 bug in my garage collecting dust. had a manx dune buggy I sold to buy it about 15 years ago. been buying up parts for it to restore it when I retire. as far as hot wheels I have about 800 vw's and 50 or more that are not vw.

I knew it! Short story about dad's VW-I grew up in a small town, Itasca, Illinois and one morning when dad was leaving for work he saw his tail lights were missing! Turned out some kids a few blocks away were building a dune buggy and stole them. The cops knew immediately where to find them and they were returned AND re-installed on dad's VW a few hours later. These were the same punks who dad chased out of our pool when he caught them taking a midnight dip LOL.

Went through a few VW’s in my youth. My first was a ‘64 Ghia in red with a white roof that was allot of fun. Dropped a 2100 in it and practically killed myself quite a few times until I blew up the transmission and ended up killing the car instead. Pulled the engine and put it away.

A couple of cars later I ended up scoring a ‘59 Samba Transporter off of a retired Air Force Officer that brought it home from a European deployment. He loved that thing and it showed, he knew me as we were neighbors and luckily he never new how much of an idiot I was and let me talk him into the sale. People shake their heads when they see the prices they trade for now but I get it, drive one for yourself and you’ll understand as well. It magically just made you happy driving it and I never drove anything that netted so many waves and smiles from people as I drove around. Sadly I had no clue about how they would increase in value or I’d still have it.

My third was a sliding ragtop roof ‘63 sedan. I had so many plans for it and even pulled the 2100 out and added dual intakes with a pair of dual Dellorto 38’s on them. Rebuilt everything else and had big plans to get the body cleaned up and started buying parts for redoing the interior as well. Once I had nearly all the parts for it in hand, it and the parts along with some tools ended up stolen while I was away at a weekend event. I was devastated and never owned another VW again short of a superbeetle that I dumped almost as soon as I got it as it was a train wreck.

Someday I hope to replace that ‘63 sedan so I can finish what I started and I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to luck into another smoking deal on another Samba.
