These are 2 builds that I was really proud of. The white 61 Dart is a rare Johan kit that I originally built as stock but later tore it down and turned it into a Pro Street car with narrowed rear end , radius-ed rear wheel openings, lowered front suspension and then getting that hemi to fit under the hood. The Wild Child 65 AFX Falcon is a Polaris kit that I built out of the box only adding real rubber tires to replace the hard plastic unpainted ones that came with this kit. This car still exists today and is owned by Joe Germaine in Massachusetts. I drew it in 2013 for him. The Wild Child was originally based out of Ontario in its day.december 2020 4 334.jpg Thumper Dick Harrell WCFalcon 007.jpg december 2020 4 335.jpg december 2020 4 337.jpg december 2020 4 338.jpg december 2020 4 340.jpg

Today was one of those rare days I walked into Walmart here in town and scored. As usual the racks had everything nobody wanted so I checked the area where I saw someone had stashed cars away before and bingo. I pulled out 3 Ramcharger 1/24 scale Challangers. 2 1/24 scale 65 Mustang fastback drag cars and a 1/43 66 Charger Gasser and a Hot Wheels car crusher 69 Charger. I put the 2 Ramchargers and the Mustangs back on the shelf and bought the rest for me. I can't stand when people do that crap. Kind of felt good ruining the guy's day like that. Wish I knew when he was coming back so I could watch his reaction.

I don’t understand why they do that. Do they go to Walmart with no money and say I will hide these until I get the cash. I don’t go out of my way to run around looking but if I’m in any store that sells toys I’m definitely looking to see what they have and I will buy it not hide it.

I have a friend who collects nothing but Hot Wheels and his collection is insane. I'll say since the early 90s he has collected every release and color. What doesn't fit in his display just gets filed in totes and stacked against the walls with everything still carded. He is severely addicted. He pulls the same crap in the stores hiding Hot Wheels in the clothing racks at Target and Walmart. His excuse is that he is often not sure if he has this or that one so he hides them until he can check or gets more money. I asked him what's the point in collecting so much and he is convinced they will all be worth money someday. He doesn't have any children so I cant say maybe his great grandchildren will appreciate what he is doing.
I raided a vultures stash they were going to sell at the at the swap meets when I made my score yesterday.

Obviously I haven't been collecting for all that long but I did create a spread sheet on my phone to keep track of what I do have because no sense in having multiples for no good reason. I picked up a few extras in hopes of doing some trades, but so far that's not panned out so in the future it's just for me. I do have a lot in a couple of totes right now only because I haven't built more displays. No sense in having them if you can't look at them or show them off. I recently picked up a few fire trucks etc that were 4 and 5 dollars each because they were older but I'm not collecting them as an investment. I can't see myself paying more than $1 each for anything in the future unless it's extraordinary.

These idiots I see on Instagram that have 17 of one model because they think it's the latest hottest model.. I hope they choke on them. Even on here there are people paying $10 or more for the Blue Tacoma - yet I've passed up 50 of them or more in recent weeks as things have come back in stock. It'll start all over again now that the Red version is coming out.

My collection is large and pretty old and 10-15 years ago I was buying everything and anything but I wound up getting stuck with a bunch of stuff I had a hard time unloading later. With Nascar I still have a couple boxes in the basement I cant sell. Most are rare pieces that are too nice to give away. When I buy I stick with cars related to drag racing and lately I have been collecting pick ups. I look at the quality of the piece and remember something goes in something has to come out. I stay grounded doing that. I still set up once or twice a year to sell off the overflow. We have a big neighborhood yard sale coming up the first of June.

Trucks seems to bee the in thing right now too - I'm not too interested in all the Hot Wheels concepts and focused more on the real vehicles. And of course anything Fire & Rescue related. With all of my stuff being new and mostly available I have no problem donating some extras to the neighbor's grandson

Speaking of that blue Tacoma, if any of you guys need one please let me know I will gladly send you one. Kills me to see people asking ridiculous prices for them and yet some people pay it. Your right about the same thing happening when the red one comes out. I keep telling people it’s new this year give it time you will see it in stores soon

I feel like you've missed the point of these last few posts.. the idiots hoarding all the HWs and then reselling on ebay or at trade shows for stupid prices is what we are complaining about. Schmucks hiding things in stores to come back and get later and all that. I wouldn't buy from ebay even if it was for free.

Not if you're willing to pay that much. I'd rather pay the 94 cents each at Walmart or where ever.

$6.50 sounds fair compared to $8-$10 they try to get here. Its only worth what you are willing to pay.
If people didn't pay it these guys wouldn't exist.
Over the years I have gotten to know certain vendors who will cut me a "deal" with model kits but Hot Wheels they won't unless its stuff they can't sell.
The model vendors I believe have to order the newer kits from the manufacturer unless they pick them up at estate sales and auctions. I pick those up for $20-$22 when they were asking $25. I see prices are up to $32+ now at Hobby Lobby and the websites. My days are numbered.

6 or 10 bucks isn't that much money. But it's still 6 to 10 times the original price. It's silly to pay that much in my opinion and I don't want to support that person or the practice.

I wouldn't pay $200.000 for a Tacoma online just because I couldn't find one locally.

I do buy on eBay but it’s mostly for convention cars and customs you can’t buy in stores.

These vendors create the shortage and then jack you over to pay them more and will tell you this is hard to come by.
I know some of these clowns have it set up with the stores so they can get first dibs, or they know when deliveries are made. Don't leave an unopened box sitting near the display. They will open it.
My area is wiped out because of them. It amazes me when I travel and visit stores in other areas and see what is on their shelves. Thank goodness for the internet.
