Hot Wheels

So I found one of those scumbags that @RLMoody has been talking about.

Saw a yard sale sign that was 5 blocks from my house so I headed on over and discovered this...

Then I realized he was pricing brand new $1 (or less) stuff starting at $4 and sky rocketing from there.

Don't get me wrong.. he had a lot of cool stuff but I quickly learned he's not having a yard sale at all.. he's running a business disguised as a yard sale.

I walked away.

 

He may have shitty prices but that doesn't look like typical resellers garage. If I decided to sell all of my collection my garage would look like that. I may have better prices but it is what it is.
I think I may take a weekend sometime here real soon and go through what's left of our stuff and narrow it down. Ill post in here first to see if any of yall are interested. The 1/43 scale stuff is either harder to find unless you pay an arm and a leg but it looks soooo good. And the high prices keeps me focused on my absolute favorite cars instead of just buying everything slightly cool lol.

 

He had a door to the house he kept going into bring out more things. Claims to have 5000 more HWs. Said he's buying and selling online.

I went and visited all the Hobby Lobby and Target stores in the area instead. I found a ton of cool to me stuff that I'll post later.

 

Vultures have yard sales too. Must not be any swap meets or flea markets over that weekend nearby.
He could be like my buddy "Chris" who since the early 90s had to buy at least one of every Hot Wheels made including all the color variations. He was convinced they were a good investment and filed them all away in totes. Dozens of totes. He could wallpaper his entire house with what he has. Still has them.
My "Uncle Hoarder" is the same. I went after him for hot Wheels with Real Riders, but he won't part with them like everything else he hoards. I call him a Mega hoarder. He filled his 3 bedroom slit level to the point there are just aisles to get to the bathroom and kitchen. Basement and garage are packed solid. So are the 4 full size vans, a 28" camper and shed are full. Grandma died so he also filled her house and her small rental next door. The backs of all 3 houses are full of mowers, tractors etc. he finds along the roads. I just learned he also has 2 garage size storage rentals. The guy is in his 60s now and I think it is his plan to take everything with him. If he doesn't, we are going to someday have one helluva yard sale.

 

I think there's a line between collector and obsession. Hopefully I am still on the collector side! Might be questionable after today!

For the record i did NOT buy the diorama of the FnF house. I sent a picture and it was on my camera roll haha!

 

I had trouble keeping it real for years. There is a difference between being a collector, being obsessed and being a hoarder. When it starts getting out of control its time to ask yourself which one you are. I had boxes piled up in the basement and garage when I finally stopped asked myself what was I doing. I was obsessed.

 

The 1/24 diecast Warren Johnson 90s Cutlass was to hard to pass on for $20 at the Randolph swap meet. The guy had 7 other cars from that series. I wanted all of them but decided not to do it because of space limitations at home. I hope he sold them because I wont pass on them again. The 55 Chevy Hot Wheels Gasser was somebody else s attempt at customizing. I gave him $8 for it being this was the first one of these I have seen here.

 

I recently seen an Instagram where they 3D printed a new chassis for that 55 and made it a low rider.

 

Just found a bunch of the Matchbox 2016 AC at a Dollar Tree of all places. Going to cut it in half just behind the front pillar of the back window and make it a DCLB. I like the decals off the Hot Wheels 2020, and those are available on eBay. I think I have a winner of a project.

Need to change those wheels, though.

This is where I’m at now. Cases are full shelves are full and now boxes everywhere. I tell myself I’m a collector because I don’t sell them but borderline hoarder.

Here's another VW tow truck.. I'm not even a VW fan..but I do like tow trucks.. anyways.. got this one at a 50% discount because the tow assembly is actually broken from the box. It should be flush with the cab... I'm sure once I open it I can fix that issue.
