Thats normal. She thinks its silly as well but doesnt try to shame me or stop me, fortunately

 

We have a good mutual understanding that I won’t take over the whole house and then it’s all good. We allot ourselves $X / week for our own guilt free spending. The house budget isn’t impacted and we spend it on whatever we want.

If I took over an entire room of the living area for model cases I’m sure it would be “really?” but otherwise it’s non-issue.

The only time I get myself into any side eye is when I say I’m done and then I buy something. I get a “why don’t you just be honest to yourself about it, you’re not done”. She’s not mad I’m spending, she’s more annoying I’m not being real with myself.

 

She searches hot wheels for me sometimes lol

 

I was already collecting when I met my wife. We were dating for awhile before she saw my collection. I’m sure she thought it was silly but never said anything. Married 24 years now and she will send me pictures if she sees them in stores asking if I have this one. Just can’t leave them around the house and they are not allowed in the living room.

 

Lol same. She even knows the treasure hunts and she goes to the hot wheels section to try to find them. We’re mainly building a collection for our 2 year old. I feel bad when she buys some that she thinks are highly sought after but they’re not. I just tell her that they’re cool and that our son would love it.

Me and my wife have a 3-bedroom home and there is just the 2 of us. My car collection occupies the one bedroom and garage. Her Raggedy Ann and Andy collection occupies the other spare bedroom and living room.
Collections are huge but we both agree if it goes in a box then it goes to next year's yard sale. When I buy something, I know something has to go. I almost bought a couple cars yesterday but passed when I asked myself what would they be replacing?
I don't need to look far to know what collecting looks like when it gets out of control. I have an Uncle Hoarder. He has filled 3 houses top to bottom, 2 garage size storage units, 5 or 6 vans and a pole barn with his collections. Behind each house is his vast collections of yard tractors and mowers. He just bought my mother's minivan for additional storage. He says he intends to take it with him or he aint going. He is 64 and coughing up a lung from smoking now. I hope he lives to be 100 but he will need to buy a few more houses if he does.
