So… Hotwheels. Interesting. They had popular entries in a handful of scales in the 60/70/80s.
Some were monsters (not quite 1/18), but not far off.

Buddy gave me this today. He knows I’ve been looking for a bmw wagon for years (a full size one). Before I open it and give it to my kid are these collectable at all or nothing special.

Not really worth anything. May be a few more colors than that one. Give it to your kid but only if he wants it.

    Newest project.

From this - stock, lame ride height, very poor wheels
    IMG_7609.jpg

to this - wheel and tire change, raised the rear ride height, dropped the front down a bit
    IMG_7610.jpg

If I’m being 100% honest, I’m not impressed with my work on this one. When I put this same wheel and tire combo on my Trans Am, I was very pleased. I was able to carefully, but easily separate the wheels from the plastic bushings the wheels rode on. It was easy enough that I was able to resell the stock Trans Am wheels without any issue. The Chevelle…the first front wheel I tried came off okay-ish. This one has faux front discs that were blocking the pry points a bit, so that made getting the wheel off tough. The first one ended up popping off the plastic stub with the pink plastic bushing still embedded in the wheel. I ended up removing the disc, snapping the busing back on and then carefully prying the wheel off the bushing. The rear axle appeared much more straight forward with zero access issues to the wheels, so I began to pry the the wheel off the bushing the same way I did the front and the T/A and snap. The wheel stub broke clean off. F***. I moved to the other side and the same thing happened. I ended up sacrificing the wheels and Dremeling the wheels off the bushings for the rear two and then off the front suspension not chancing breaking another hub. I then separated the stubs from the bushings and reglued them. I adjusted the center bore and fit the wheels back on. Of course the LH stub broke the second I put the weight of the car on it, so I ended up gluing the stub and bushing back onto the axle end for more supprt. Unlike my T/A this one will never roll again (and it bothers me SO much).

When I ultimately do the my Nova and the other Chevelle projects I'll likely just sacrifice the wheels off of them rather than risk snapping the stubs. It stinks as I'll lose out on a few bucks in the resale market, but it's way better than running into this again.

That said, I love that I captured the "look" I was going for on this one. As much as I love Japanese cars and the whole JDM culture movement, I have a soft spot for this style muscle car as there were still a few battered examples running around when I was a young kid in the late 80s / early 90s. Nothing like the show car era of the late 70s / early 80s but how they were before the Barrett-Jackson / Mecum guys got involved and every single example were turned into perfect showcars.

    Trailer queens…
My wife calls my Tacoma a trailer queen because it just sits in the garage under blankets. Only have 4000 miles on it.
The chevelle looks great, I have the same one in green, and you’re right the rims look bad.

The 70 to 72 Chevelles came from the factory sitting lower in the rear to help the squat off the line. The rear ends were also about 3/4 of an inch off center to help with the torque. The rear fender lips were different from side to side to hide this and you could always tell when the quater panels had been replaced because the replacement panels were the same lip size instead of the factory stagger.

Hit the grocery store for some items...normal pegs with nothing...around the corner on end cap was some...pulled these out. Happy dance...wish the truck was a STH...but happy with Tesla and Chevy.

Might keep the yellow one on this flatbed I have laying around. Scale is just a little off to me.
