Well not having to go to work right now I have a bunch of time. I've been looking at homes with my real estate agent, but not seeing anything I like the looks of.

When I was in High School I took a bunch of architecture classes, and designed several houses. That was many yrs ago, and even if I still had my computer from that time, the program licenses are long gone.

Anybody know of some basic and free drawing programs so I don't need to break out the pencil and go old school?

I use smartdraw.com. I took all those classes in Jr and high school in the late 60's and early 70's. I had to use a slide rule and the cheapest calculator was close to $100. The learning curve was terrible. Took me months to get it. I got to the point I could design room additions, cabinets, decks, landscape designs and ect. I think they have a free sample, but you don't get all the stuff. I bought it maybe for about 90 bucks 10 yrs ago. Really happy with it.

SketchUp is popular if you're looking for 3d. 2d you can go librecad.

Autodesk's Revit is really cool, and can be pretty advanced, but for just messing around and laying stuff out quickly sketchup is pretty nice. It's always fun to break out the protectors, triangles, and parallel boards though :D
