That's not too bad, in fact it's somewhat similar to what I intend to build for my spare.

Dennis, think you can sketch up what you wanted? I'm curious to see what the customer wanted compared to what the builder supplied.

This is what I envisioned for a tire carrier. The vertical support would come from the rear bed post, not the bedside. The bottom would be flat plate that will fit down in the grooves in the bed. I may need to break out some cardboard to mock it up.

The tire would be secured with a single ratchet strap around it's diameter. Getting the tire in too place would be as easy as rolling it up on the tailgate and pushing it into it's slot. A couple of hoops can be added to the inboard side for tie downs as well, since the existing tiedown nut will be used as an anchor point.

something like these but with the tire standing straight up. The bar doesn't need to go over top the tire like the first one. But high enough so it would support the tire from rocking back and forth

I'm assuming that you still want the tire at the front of the bed, correct? If that's the case just have Kase cut the front of his bascket off call it done.

All of the little black dots represent anchor points.

Oh!! I did want the back part a little taller. That's where the x or extended bars came from. Or even a fucking hoop from side to side? And have tie down points on the hoop?

I would consider putting it on the passenger side for weight distribution/lean issues. You already have driver, battery, and gas tank on the driver side. Just a thought.

The only problem I have with it being on the passenger side is that you create a pretty large blind spot. I do agree with the weight distribution concern though.

Eh, my truck leans then doesn't lean. People say it's a full tank of gas. But it leans when it's empty also lol
