Well got two letters primered now waiting on small rollers to apply the "stripper" gold.
Decided to paint one of the borders borders but only primered the one border.

i really doubt that thing goes anywhere near 500 ft.

 

Shoulda made the pressure chamber out of 4" PVC for more volume and more distance

 

I don't know…. That's a long barrel, plus if it's frozen in ice, along with a little melting prior to being launched (to lube things up), I think 500ft is plausible if not probable. Compressed air is a marvelous thing!

 

i never got anywhere near that with the ones i built of a similar size back in college. and with the apples, potatoes, lemons etc we were using, you got a much better seal. we used a diameter barrel that was just smaller than the item to be launched. we sharpened the end of the barrel so that when we forced the item into the barrel, it shaved it down to a perfectly fitting plug. not even with proper wadding, will you get that kind of seal with bait.

we then fired it with both compressed air 100-120 psi, as well an aerosol propellant, fired off by a BBQ ignighter that was threaded into the pressure canister.

and on top of that, we also didn't have the drag of a fising lin holding us back. we got about 300 ft consistantly.

and you can only go so high on the pressure before oyu disintegrate your ammunition
