Ordered my cable for remote mounting my winch solenoid box...bought a cheap Chinese remote controller to stick in there too (and a cut off switch because it would probably run down my battery).

Does anyone run a fuse on their winch lead (+) or just free-ball it? I suppose its really no different than your starter lead...if it shorts everything is going to hell in a handbasket.


That said with proper routing that probability should be low.

 

no fuse. get some Anderson quick connectors though, that way the winch doesn't always have power to it.

Edit, I read now you got a cut off switch. Maybe no need for the quick connectors

 

I have an inline fuse on mine. First time I used it the 100amp fuse blew. I had a few 150s and a 200 with me. Tossed in the 150 and used it several times since with no issues.
I would either do a fuse or a quick disconnect.

that's cut off is just a 15a switch to cut off power to the solenoids and the rc receiver.

what type of disconnect do you have?

what's the driver on your winch? mine alleges to be 5.5hp

Correct. They're used on forklifts and other equipment for the most part.

 

You can fuse the main hot wire from the winch solenoid to the battery if you have big $$$, look at your winches diagram online it will tell you max amps (probably around 400).

You're better off doing what I did and fusing the hot contactor inside the remote & having it power on when the key is in the accessory position
