Ok Colin & Nathan, what do you suppose is the best way to reattach the bed once it's been bobbed? Someone may have gotten a quote to have it professionally done...

I was thinking along the lines of sealing the edges and seams with epoxy and then bracing it with a plate and carriage bolts from underneath. Do you think this would work?

I'd have to look at how the tailgate posts attach to get a better idea of how to tackle this.

The bedsides are easy as they come off. Cut out a strip and weld them back together.

As for the composite you'll have to build a support frame for the cut end that ties into the supports for the tailgate.

 

i'd fiberglass, carbon fiber, or kevlar it back together with some high strength epoxy. with at least 6-8'' of overlap on each side of the cut, and then still use some even larger sandwich plates and bolts to top it off.

black is the bed. there is only a gap where the cut is for visual purposes. the two pieces should be toucheing when you actually do it.

blue is the fiberglass/carbon fiber/kevlar with some quality epoxy (both seals and adds strength.

red is the steel/aluminum sandwich plates.

grey is all of the bolts.

I would add a web to the lower sandwich plate for more rigidity.
