    My vote is for 30-06 on the guns. You can always find ammo for it even in a podunk hardware store near the deer lease. If you want it to shoot flatter for wide open spaces just get a lighter bullet like a 120 grain. Bigger game like elk or bear and a 165 or 180 grain will fit the bill. Ammo is still reasonable priced. Proven round. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
    270 is a great round as well but I am partial to the 30 due to its ability to load up a heavier bullet.
