I thought these welding tests were supposed to be a cake walk for you, what's different about these and tests you took in school to get certified

Its with a form of welding Im not super familiar or confident with. Only 3-4 months experienced with FCAW (flux core arc welding) and literally 2 days experience with the other test(metal core) so yea. I did my best but only the bend will tell

Now if it was a 6G SMAW(stick) test, I'd be confident as fuck  cause that's something I got down easily.

But fcaw...ehhh guess the bend will tell lol

School really focuses on stick welding. To get you welding in plants for shutdowns , pipeline, boilers and pressure vessels, and things of that sort.

They just dab into flux core to give you a sample.

Getting paid $17/hr to stand by someone at the plant and watch them work pretty much lol.
Literally all last week. It was boring but getting paid $17/hr to do nothing was kinda cool too cause Im not allowed to actually work on anything in there until they certify me.

Well see. This isn't a typical flux core welding like you see people.do in their garages.

The machines are set so high(30volts) with a WFS(wire feed speed) of around 270. It burns so hot that the wire literally sprays out of the gun (called spray transfer) where as normal welding like you would see Nathan do in his shop with a mig is a colder form called short-circuit transfer(18-22 volts and 180-220 wfs) where the wire short circuits when it touches the metal and that's how it welds.

Just trying to inform people that there's more forms and types of welding than just basic ones

How flux core welds look and metal core and sub arc welds.
First 2 are flux. Then metal. Then sub.

Subarc = robot welded. Beautiful welds and pretty cool how it all works.

Oh yeah..... Kase if you know any welders looking for lots of work, have them apply at Performance. Those folks have a ton of work. That new shop in Rosharon always has a full parking lot and lay down yard with trucks in and out pretty frequently.
