    the impressive part is the scale of it. I believe it is the highest capacity lifting devise in the Americas. those darker rigging components hanging off the bottom of the cables in the picture have the girth of about a city buss.

    my pictures aren't as impressive, but it'll give you an idea of the size, especially when you realize that that is a nearly colpleted oil platform next to it.

    I can believe it. There is some massive equipment in refineries but nothing the scale of a platform. I mean, some units are massive but they don't have to be self-sustaining like a rig.

    Once a long long time ago I was at some rig construction yard in Corpus. The memory is foggy but I still remember being impressed.

    had 5 rigs of various shapes and sizes going at once when i was down there last. i think yours is one of three at the moment now, as two have sailed since then (assuming schedule was kept)
