As far as the microwave goes, I don't feel the need to stink them out, but I do feel the need to clear the damn timer as I go by.

 

Why? Just set the timer to 9999. Then walk away

 

put popcorn in, set timer to 10 minutes, wait for fire alarm...
put spoon in, put sunglasses on, watch the light show until the nuke tube explodes...
