Yep. It's coming in a diff from a 3rd gen Runner. Unfortunately it has 4.30 gears in it so I can't just swap the diff in. I'm going to have to tear the diff apart and remove the locker then find someone to install the locker in my 4.10 diff. But I'm getting the locker for a steal so I'm not too worried about it.

    I laughed at this.

Something tells me that you'd still get your 4wd stuck before a PreRunner.

I have no idea how you would set up a clamshell...I'm sure its DIYable with the right tools though. Did you see the post in my build thread about DIY install without gear change in the 3rd member in the rear? It was relatively smooth to complete and I haven't heard/felt/observed any issues with it and have now put a couple thousand highway miles on it plus some off road miles.

I'm wondering if you didn't affect the pinion position if the clamshell would also be relatively easy to mess with...dunno...haven't researched how it comes apart, just speculating. Probably best to give it to a shop like you said.

The fronts are apparently a bitch and a half compared to the rears. Plus I don't have any of the necessary tools. For what it will cost to buy a press and the other needed tools, I can pay someone to put it in and come out ahead. I would like to do my own gear setup on my next set of axles though. But they won't be Toyota axles

How many zeros do I have to add to $0 before it becomes a real budget?
