    tennis balls have pretty grippy rubber on the inside. but I don't think sliding would be an issue with either. if you do see some sliding, just put a zip tie real tight around the antenna, right below the ball.

    Got a 3' one. Mounting it to the top of my rack so it should work well. I don't need to talk to the moon. I figured if I had a 5 mile range I'd be more than pleased.

    your radio may play a larger part in achieving that range than the antenna

    That's contrary to everything I've read about CB's. All of the posts I've read say the radio has little to do with range, instead the antenna type and placement determines range.

    correct, but it fairly easy to set up an antenna (a good thing). what typically happens is that people set up proper ground planes and tune the swr correctly, and then get a junky radio. even if you can pull a signal from 7 miles away, you need to be able to make to proper adjustments on the radio itself in order to understand what the person is saying. I hated my cobra 40 for that reason. it was great for wheeling, when everyone is within a quarter mile of one another, but it simply didn't have enough adjustment to get clear communication at longer distances. upgraded to the uniden 880, and immediately saw improvement, with the identical antenna setup.
