Well, my weekend just got shorter. I'm headed to Amelia La for work Sunday afternoon. I have to watch them lay out the sea fastenings on a barge. They'd better work quick. I'm supposed to leave for FJ Fallout Thursday night. Damn work is starting to get in the way.

 

what does sea fastenings on a barge entail?

 

That's right that's next weekend forgot all about it.

 

We're bringing a couple of topsides in from offshore. Another company designed the cans that will accept the legs of the topside and we designed the supports that go under the cans. I personally designed the bracing that keeps the cans from moving during transport.

 

See all the steel that attaches the topsides to the barge? That's what I designed.

These kinds of lifts often are. You're only allowed to transit in certain sea states. They're designed for up to 20degrees of roll, pitch, heave.

It'll be cool once they've successfully pulled into port. Till then I'll be nervous.

 

have you ever designed that type of object before?

 

I've designed the topside before, and the sea fastenings once, but I had software that helped me verify the loads. I did this design by hand and built in a large fudge factor.

 

Throw some trail toys soft shackles in to strap everything down and it'll ride...

 

I'll just park the truck on the barge and suck the topsides down with the winch. No worries.
