Lmao. First and foremost - try to find out what cut of diamond she likes: ie - round, princess, marquis, cushion, pear, brilliant, emerald, etc. does she like a simple, single stone or a 3-stone ring? Also see if you can find out if she likes the "fancy" aka colored diamonds. Once you find out this, it will make your search a lot easier and then you can focus on the following:

As for clarity - unless you have an unlimited bank account to afford a true FL (flawless) rock, you'll want VS or VVS. These have little to no inclusions and any inclusions can only be seen under magnifier.

Color - stay in the D-F range. These are your colorless/near colorless diamonds.

    Clear as mud huh?

i'm good to go on the rating of diamonds. that's pretty straight forward. i'm just having trouble determining a good place to go for a single diamond (loose). I already have a ring to use. from what i've been told, it had two small diamonds already on the outside, and i just need to get the main one. unless for some reason i want to replace the smaller ones as well. so once i get the ring in my hands, i will go in somewhere and see what cut and size looks best. i already know she likes the ring itself, so the cut/size will be determined by what lookls good in the ring, not what she likes. since she likes the ring, i'm asuming she likes the cut the fits it well. i've just never bought a loose stone before. it's always been a fully built piece of jewelery. that's why i'm fairly lost on where to go. i know the big name jewelers all sell loose diamonds, but am i better off there, or is it better to find a diamond/precious stone specialist (if there is such a thing)

I took out a concrete filled bollard with mine, by accident a couple weeks ago
