Hope you don't get snipped. My dad is constantly in fear of being laid off. Welcome to engineering in Houston.

Yeah I hope not as well.
I'm guessing since I'm a new grad/hire with a lower salary they would keep me. Plus I got a very large sign on bonus and my company just spent about 5 grand on three weeks of training for me.

"Normally" new hires are within a grace period where they are not considered for layoffs. I started at a place a long time ago that 3 months after I started, they had a round of layoffs, I was exempt, but several people within the group I was hired into were layed off. Needless to say, they was lots of wonder as to why new hires were made and layoffs then happened.

Yeah. When I started in June a lot of people where not talking to me and I could feel the tension around my area of the office. After about two weeks I found out its was because the department was on a hiring freeze and a lot of my coworkers were suspicion as to why there was a new hire. I had to tell them I was offered the job last year in November before the hiring freeze.

My opinion only but your boss should do that manxplaining. Hope it works out for the best.
