So, I saw this big bird in the turning lane not moving, turned the taco around and put on the flashers. Not knowing what to do, called 911 and had a deputy send out (fort bend county). After 20 min, the deputy arrived and we both began started looking for someone ie, game warden, animal control, rescue facility etc. to come and asses the animal. Not getting through, we wrapped a blanket around the bird to prevent a struggle and placed him in a cardboard box and took him home. The deputy took my info as he was expecting a call back from several messages he left. I continued contacting people found from a directory of individuals in the area who rehabilitate wounded animals and was told to take the bird to Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition on the NW side. Early next morning, I put the box in the back seat, drove to work and checked on him when I arrived. He died overnight but I took the Great Horned Owl to the suggested place anyway. A staff member examined the bird, applying pressure behind the skull and noticed a red tint behind the lens. She determined that the bird was hit by a vehicle and suffered head trauma. Because it is illegal to collect owl feathers, she placed the carcass in the freezer and called a local Native American who has a permit to collect owl feathers for the purpose of making a ceremonial Indian headdress'. I know this post is long, but thought I'd share since it's not everyday one encounters a scenario like this. Crazy!

RIP little owl bro. I hate when animals get hit by cars. I know they should be able to get out of the way but we pretty much put freeways through their living rooms so its kind of not their fault.

It's been warm lately. Like last year. The season started early. And the crawfish got huge. Right now they are still medium size.
