one of the uav launchers I use (for the 40 pound fixed wing) uses a warn winch and amsteel blue to compress gas springs...

works like a charm... don't know if its got an indrum brake however

 

Browsing the TDPS website for vehicle inspections. Particularly interested in the exhaust portion of the inspection. This is what I found….

For trucks with an installed canopy or camper, for the sake of the inspection, it is considered part of the passenger compartment. Without a topper, the passenger compartment ends at the end of the cab. Wheww. My exhaust chop is indeed legal.

DPS states a vehicle will fail inspection if:

"The tailpipe fails to discharge exhaust from the rear or sides or top of the passenger compartment of the vehicle."

 

Pft dumping the exhaust is so played out I'm gonna do fender exits!

 

The brake isn't used for pulling line in, it's used when letting line out under power. If you're lowering yourself down an incline the brake will come into play.

 

This would be a perfect opportunity for you to reroute your exhaust into a stack...

ya we compress the springs with the winch and then release the compression instantaneously

Virginia law states the same. i had to dig like crazy to find it, but it is indeed legal as long as you get past the rear or side of the cab. no need to get out from under the bed without a cap

i actually had to print it out from the official Gov. site and show the Virginia inspectors, because they didn't believe me. wanted to fail me until i pulled out the documentation
embarrassed a couple of Mexicants that day

 

i really want to go through the bedside to get it a little higher. it's prettyl low on the priority list though, so i don't see it happening too soon.

 

I thought about it when I was doing my exhaust.

For those who are electrical savvy…

I'm trying to wire up my license plate lights.

I have good continuity in the wires to to the LED's (tested with a 9v battery)
And I also have power coming from the cannon plug wires for the license plate light.

However, I can't get the lights to come on when I hook the two together. I have tried all the different possibilities for polarity… Still nothing.

Any suggestions?
