hope you guys in Houston are just stripping your homes for now, air it out, spray some bleach to kill mold (mixed properly with water of course) and wait to see where Irma goes. I've told a friend in Ft. Lauderdale to evac if she can.

I believe getting rid of the surface mold on the 2x4s or any wood would do fine. Had to do this in Katrina.

    - Removed drywall
    - Removed old insulation
    - Cleaned all wood studs
    - Sprayed Bleach
    - Monitored for weeks until Home Depot had a supply of drywall locally

    Everything
It does. But only on non porous material.

So it doesn't penetrate the wall boards. It just kills the surface mold and the mold will grow back.

My uncle(he's a contractor in Florida)told me to spray with bleach, let it dry, then spray over it with Kilz. That doesnt kill the mold but encapsulates it or something.

Irma needs to fuck off for real. My neighbors told me we were 100% okay during Ike and Rita so I could realistically risk weathering the storm at home but I've got a ton of large pine trees around my house and with high winds I'm not sure I would want to be here if one came down.

Kilz will help a lot. But there are better option. I believe vinegar based mixtures are good for 2x4s and etc.

I have a huge oak tree in my front yard and one of the main branches goes right over my master bedroom. It big enough that it would crush the room if it broke off the tree. It's a little scary.

Use straight vinegar, it'll kill everything and isn't toxic to people
