...And League City, and Clear Lake, and Galveston County, and (insert name of Houston-area community here)...

I am not unsympathetic, but it is the nature of the beast.

That's exactly how all the smaller areas that are now booming started. I lived in Santa Fe 20 years ago when it was a nice little rural area. We had two 5 acre lots and couldn't see the neighbors on either side and now there's subdivisions everywhere because people moved out there trying to get away. They've pretty much eaten up all the space here down south so now expansion heads north.

Nothing new. Look at the East cost, New England, etc.

High population density and well paying careers mixed with people that don’t mind to drive an hour plus to work.

Plus the amount of baby boomers getting ready to retire that live in Houston Dallas and San Antonio is driving the cost of all the land between those cities to an extreme high. They all want to retire in the country

The wanting to retire in the country is what sucks for us born and raised out here cause it drives up the cost of land which makes it hard for us who don't make 6 figures to stay in the area our families are.

It’s not any easier for us in the city if we are trying to stay close to family. Even making a low 6 figure salary it is hard to afford $300,000 houses in a nice neighborhood with decent schools. Even if you find a decent neighborhood, half the time the schools suck which means sending you kids to private schools. And the cost even more $$,$$$.

I just hope the Neighborhood next to mine doesn’t rise in price too much in the next 3-4 years. It is a bunch of 3-5 acre lots with houses built in the 70s and 80s. The most recent lot sold for $410,000 (4br 2bath on 4 acres). My budget will be $500k, so fingers crossed that the housing market slows down in Houston.

See. That's insane to me when I'm looking at building a barndominium on 3 acres for around $120k. That's a 40x60x20 one so I can have a upstairs loft to live in while I'm kid less and wife less.

The one in Alvin is even smaller. Eagle Lake is a decent Buckee's by comparison. Ask anyone.
