Already been said, but I'd be more concerned about it getting unwanted attention. After that, I would just make sure it's VERY easy to see that it's non-functional. Last, if it's perm, and if the stock is actually wood, it's not going to last very long.

Completely legal to walk around with/carry as long as it's a legal weapon or you possess the proper BATFE paperwork. Only time it becomes illegal is if you carry it into a place where no weapons are allowed, use it in a commission of a crime, or allow people to use it who arent supposed to have access like felons.

If you do it, call the local 5.0 and tell them what you're doing and where you will be to help cut down on 911 calls. Also expect them to come and question you.

All in all.... I'd say skip the hassle.
