It’s hard to be unpleasant to people you can’t talk to or meet without getting a chance

Jokes aside, I've seen tons of security guards transition into all kinds of better paying jobs within the plant, from high paid embedded contractor jobs ranging from hole-watch to safety. Or a few even went on to be plant employees like maintenance or even operators. By the sound of things your contract is flexible and yall go from shut down to shut down, job to job. You gotta get on with an embedded contractor.
That does suck and I've totally been on that situation. I'm actually surprised being that there's always a turn around somewhere in Houston. Hell my plant just stated a turn around today. There's about to be tons of contractors coming in.

Most jobs are full before they start. It’s all who you know. It’s rare to get in a place without already blowing someone

come to think of it when I got on with Brand, I name dropped a dude I never met because i was told to. Turned out to be my site supervisor lol. When I interviewed, dude asked.how I knew Adan. I told em I never met the guy and still got the job lol. Then again that was just to be a helper

@weldertaco have you tried getting on with Jacobs or Zachry? Jacobs is always moving but they do big jobs like the new Oligimer plant at Ineos. That's been a couple years.i believe. It's supposed to wrap up this summer last I heard. What about Turner? Repcon?

 Yup, I got one in Sunday morning, after I got some required spring maint done Sat afternoon. I thought it was cold to, and that was with some protection on my cruze-o-matic. On your's, would have been a "WTF am I doing out here" moment.

What is your end goal for working at a refinery?

Do you want to be an instrument tech/ maintenance tech, field operator, board operator, ect?

Are you only interested in refineries, or would you mind chemical plants?

End game would be a rig welder in them. But I need to get in and make connections and learn how they operate first. I’m buying a dually today to start my journey.

I’m not worried about where I start. I’m a good hand. I’ll meet people and work my way up. I can talk to the welders on the site at lunch or pipefitters and make some connections.
