I am 99% sure I’ll end up in a shipyard once my wife gets back from deployment. Pay for shipyard welders is really good in Virginia lol

Navy. And I heard there’s supposed to be jobs going on down there but I haven’t looked hard. I still have a job lined up at the house but with the wife leaving, I’m just slowly trying to get back on the road and make a little money while she’s gone

I was going to be driving to freaking Maine today for a 3-6 month job if they didn’t mess up with my welding test. Freeport May suck but if you’re desperate then you’ll drive anywhere lol.

Long story short. I took off 2 days from the outage I was working to take weld test for new company.

So I lost $800 to weld test.

I’m about to start driving to Maine Friday and they inform me that they sent in the wrong weld procedures so Monday and Tuesday was wasted. I was pissed plus they wanted me to cover their fuck up and knock out my test from those days again and do 3 new test all in one day. I walked out and informed upper management. They said they would handle it but I doubt it. If they’re willing to pay for my time Monday and Tuesday, I’ll go take the new test. If not, fuck em lol

Yep. It’s a longer story than I posted but in the end, I was bummed. I was excited for the chance to work for a big company like that finally and the pay was decent.

But I wasn’t going to jeperdize my weld test by trying to hurry and get em all done in one day just to cover the recruiters ass. If I mess up on a weld test, I’m out a job. She should have some sort of accountability to answer to for messing up on my end. So I had to walk out on principle. I’m hoping I hear something back this week but if I don’t then I’ll just keep looking for other jobs.

It’s okay. I’m hoping they try to make it right and call me back. If they don’t then it wasn’t a good company anyway

I waswa Class surveyor for ABS and covered Galveston, Texas City and Freeport. So I would witness testing of welders in the shipyards that we're working on ABS classed vessels.

Normal welds really. Just depends on the weld procedure and what position you want to test in.
