It's going to be tough while your wife is at sea or deployment, but as long as she's serving, this is your new life.

You're going to be lonely. Completely normal. Do healthy activities and stay faithful. You're a good guy and a good looking guy who is married. There will be a lot of temptation. Stay away from all of it. Don't place yourself in a situation where you can be compromised.

The positive side of this is that you don't have distractions to prevent you from doing what you want (as long as it contributes to the family) and spending your time working on projects or raking in the dough if that's what you want to do. It's like being single without worrying about dating or blowing money on women.

What career would you be changing to that would provide more than what you are earning now?

The temptation shit ain’t nothing. I love the fuck out of her lol. We have spent months apart already without even thinking in that way. It’s just the first time being apart without communication too

As far as the career and money stuff..

I’m at a plant by the house on a maintenance crew which only works 48-50 hours on average.

So I’m contemplating going maybe oilfield or something that works 72-84 hours+. Less pay but more hours would equal more pay and keep me busy but idk. That’s where I’m torn.

I just need to find a job that will let me work as much as I physically can lol

Haven’t heard you say it explicitly, but professionally try and focus the next 7-9 months toward whatever goal you want for when she returns. Much easier to focus fully now, then see if you can’ t reap the rewards afterwards.

Well if your plan is to ultimately move to VA, then bust ass and make money while you don't have distraction.

Or move to VA and find a job so that when your wife returns there is a stable household and you have a local job that pays the bills. Or even if you travel for work, be based out of VA. Think about that sooner than later because you don't know how long the actual process of finding a home, job, etc. will take.

Either way, you do you but don't wear yourself out by working 100 hours a week and don't get used to that work schedule because your wife isn't going to be too thrilled with that schedule when she's home. There is something to be said for less hours and higher pay though. Everyone needs a hobby, a life. Keeps things in perspective.

    I'm agree 100% with @Lurkin.

@weldertaco Now is the time in your life to focus on long term investment, with your career and finances.

Yea I’ve applied at 2-3 shipyards in VA but the background checks take forever.

I don’t wanna work more than 50 hours when she’s home lol I was just saying 100 hours now to keep my mind busy and distracted from the new found void of time that used to be spent with her.

Rooster ^^^ gave me a contact with a shipyard job in Texas. It would be a big pay cut but the experience may help me end up in a shipyard in VA so that’s an option too. So many options.

I guess I’ll stay with welding then and try to get better at different processes to open up more options

    Everything
    All solid advice from everyone.

If is was me I would start working my way to Virginia. Oil and gas is picking up. Should be plenty of work to get you there

There is a very large chemical plant being built in northwest Pennsylvania right now. I should be out there for pre-commissioning this time next year. I have no clue who the construction contractors are but I’ll PM you the client name and location. It could be a good gig to get onto for the next 7 months.

I can’t make any promises right now man. I’ve always refused to make promises I can’t keep. I’d go ahead and order some. I gotta get a plan for my life and that could mean leaving at the drop of a dime if a job comes up.

More good advice from Jack and Phill, if you think you’ll be in VA for some time after deployment, then start building toward a life there. But, keep in mind, depending on your SO, making a place to live there may be best for when she returns, so that y’awl build that part together. Again, depends on the person if that is something to consider or not.

I totally understand. But if you start welding on the side I'll be sad I missed the opportunity to have a derpwerx product.
I'm always looking out for #1.
Besides, it was Kase's first listed idea. I was just running with it.

All good advice. Really appreciate y’all.

The runner that she decided to take over and keep is cleaned and parked. Only mission she left me was to buy or build bumpers and sliders for it so it’ll look good in the wedding photos :anonymous:

Bored as fuck with the wife gone now.

Already going stir crazy with my down time after work.

Looking for ways to kill time like

    “Maybe I’ll build some sliders”

Then looks at cost of material...... killing time should be cheaper than this :pout:
