When I use to road bike. Memorial was the place to go. I always ride in the dead stop traffic. That was always fun

So....never been on a motorcycle in my life! :anonymous:

Wife got me a MSF gift cert for my birthday. When I get the time off, I'll take the class. After that I'm looking at a used 883. I know, I know, y'all don't like Harley's...so be it, it's what i want! :crapstorm:

Anywho....for this class they provide most of the gear.....should I get my own helmet?? I mean, wearing someone else's sweaty ass helmet....:puke:

Besides....helmets are kinda a personal feel kinda thing. :notsure:

What say y'all?? Also.....should I look into a used small honda/yamaha for learning sakes? After this MSF course I ain't gonna be out doing 100 down the I10! I'm too scared for that shit! :D

^^^^^ Although, an 883 might not be a bad starter, very much depends on what you're comfortable with learning on. If you really do spend some time learning, higher probability for dropage.

Might want to start getting some gear together to. Probably don't need it for the class, but shortly thereafter. Coat, glove, boots, etc.

I’m terrible at saving money but even I’ve learned that buying something on sale doesn’t mean you’re saving thousands. You still spent $600 lol

Get your own helmet..go to a Cycle Gear shop near you and talk to the people behind the counter about a helmet. They have plenty of styles and sizes. Try on a bunch. They will tell you how they are supposed to fit for best protection. As far as the class....just listen ask questions and wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Don't make it harder than it is...cause it aint hard at all. Then after wards, lets all meet up for some donuts....if only there was a cool donut place near Houston....

I wore someones sweaty ass helmet, wasnt a big deal. its up to you and your gross-out factor threshold I guess. I only bought some street moto boots before the class. That was all i pre-invested in.

Agree with him. I am learning and I have a couple close calls on drops, luckily none, but maybe its coming, idk.

What he said. ATGATT (all the gear all the time) unless you dont value your skin or noggin.

I didnt have as much luck as this gent with cycle gear tbh. Plus their hours never really worked for me. I think I got lucky and got a proper helmet that fits me great without any hot spots via online order from revzilla. I think if I had to do it again I would probably try out this service that motorcyclegear.com offers called "Lid Picker" which if you order you get a store credit to buy a helmet from them: "The measuring kit and report is is just $19.99 and it includes a $15 store credit from MotorcycleGear.com". Motorcyclegear.com is a Texas company based out of Lubbock. They have some of the best measuring and fit check reviews I have seen. I bought a few moto jackets off them (womens moto jackets are hard to fit) and returned all but the one I kept. They were great and easy to work with.

thats a pretty great gift from the wife though. enjoy it!
