Yeah I went there the first time with Riaz and David when we took the cars out to play on the corners. We got LOTS of weird looks but I've been back with several different groups and it's been consistently good every time.

Pre-covid I used to see a lot more of this thread in real life but this year was a bit of a dud for getting out to see people.

Moved to Texas hearing about how great Shipley's is from a friend who grew up in HTX. Didn't feel like it lived up to the hype, personally. I think nostalgia must add some flavor points. Don't hate me!

Shipley’s in San Antonio is meh.

    Shipley’s in Austin is double-meh.

With your foodie culture being a mix of what it is...y’all HAVE to have better than Shipleys.

I moved up to Virginia. Only have dunkin and krispy up here. The donuts are just sad. I like the little shops that open up at 4.30am and have a group of old people sitting in the corner drinking coffee every morning. Those places always have good donuts.

Except most if not all of the Southern Maid donut shops... less than stellar, and all seem to be ran by angry Vietnamese curmudgeons

The Southern Maid on SH6 and I-10 is amazing!!!! The Asian lady that runs it is the sweetest. When I do big orders for work, she'll try and give me a bunch of free stuff. I'm always like, "Nah, I'm good. I already have 10 dozen boxes!"
I love a well-executed, simple glazed donut. They also make really good cinnamon buns. The kolaches are kinda meh.

Never been to that one. The shops in Stafford/Sugar Land/Alief area don't have the friendliest of staff though

Good to know!! I saw on a map there is a possible water crossing. Was this me reading it wrong, or just something to worry about after rain in your opinion. Thanks in advance, want to try this with the wifes SUV
