New Tacoma owner here and i saw this chatter last week and wanted to go but couldn't fit it in this weekend. Thanks for the scouting. Very interested in another meet here.

Sounds that this would be a newbie friendly adventure? This is my firsts 4x4.

You outlined some of the hours of operation, but i read on the site they do allow camping right? Did you get any details on that? I'd like to go and stay there in the fall sometime.

i didn't ask about the camping, though i did see some randomly placed campers. it's deep redneck out there and saw lots of empty beer cans and packages so it's most likely not a family oriented camping spot.

the park is great for beginners as there are no rocks to wreck your truck on. only the occasional tree limb to scratch your clear coat and if your not careful a tree to smash your body. plenty of places to test out your suspension flex and play safe with your 4wd.

The camping is not in the park gate but outside of it, so you would actually have to be out of the park by closing and sleep in their camping spots. Which looked like a field but I didnt scout it out. Make sure you get someone to go play with you, I saw some spots that could get rough fast when it gets muddy there.

There was a nice one CL a few months back. The guy only wanted $700 for it. Everytime I think about it, I want to kick my own ass for not picking it up.

Yeah, I've got these plans to make one to include a small kitchen that opens up to the back and the front half all the survival/recovery stuff.

I just installed my thule 422xt. You all that had/have them, how far down are you able to collapse them? Mine rub the inside of the bed and can only go down this far, and are rubbing the bed at this depth. Any tricks you used or do you just take them off when not using them?

Also one of your images had a rod holder on top of the rack. Does that slide into the slot on the rack or is it a "Custom" job? any info about that?

I am considering cutting the bottom of the legs up 6 or so inches so I can lower them more when not using them.

I just take mine off when not in use. I do have concerns about the adapters just being threaded aluminum instead of them being sleeved with stainless threaded part for frequent off/on the truck action. I also thought about trimming the outer half of the lower legs that make contact with bed but wouldn't cut them off completely. But since I don't leave them on there to be stolen that isn't an issue, just the repetitive motion damage to the adapters. I'm just gonna get an extra set of them for backups.

I cut about 4-5 inches off the bottom so it slides down further.
