thanks for the information. I will definitely have to look into it.

I guess my problem is im still getting used to driving a "small truck" as i always call it.

Another thing to consider is my approach angle. if i lift it 3 inches instead of 1 (with 33" tires) then my bumper is slightly higher (not much of course) which will help when approach steep obstacles. of course when i get my bumper that will help with that issue as well so i guess its a mute point.

i was unaware of the fact that a 1" of lift would allow me to fit 33s. if thats the case i would definitely be interested in considering that option. if so who make UCAs for trucks that are not lifted? im not sure if Chaos Fab does (i like the fact that they have grease fittings).

i will look into it after class. ill be up until 4am doing homework most likely anyway

im not positive on the size of my tires currently but i know they are 31s and are skinny but they work for what my truck is capable of doing so far.

i think tire width is another thing that comes down to driving style and what you will be doing most often. I know ill never be in snow so i have little need for something thats the width of the tires i had on my 2500 for example. these are lighter trucks so while the added footprint helps it is not always needed given the large difference in weight.
Not to mention that the added weight of wide tires hurts fuel economy just as much as the height of the tires at times. so if you have a 33" tire that are 10" wide it'll be noticeably lighter than a 33" tire that 12.5" wide for example. will that extra 2.5 inches of width really hurt your performance? depends on what your doing and what the conditions are i guess.

I think it's funny how you have a bumper, box full o' toys, and a bed rack all in the bed.

33s won't bolt on with a 3 inch lift either. maybe they fit at ride height, but they'll rub just the same as the unlifted truck as soon as the suspension articulates. to properly fit a tire, you'll have to do the same cutting/trimming for a 3 inch lift or no lift.

100% right with the width though. the wader the tire and the farther it sticks out (wheel offset), the more you rub/have to trim. you'll like the 255s. easy to fit, and they grip like no other off road.

how do you like those in the dirt? i've only seen them perform in the sand and on rocks. not so hot in the sand, but they did very well on the rocks. just had to air them down further than normal.

What pond? I do not remember said pond. :D

Yea, the additional flotation didn't quite help out on that one.

Mine do great in the sand.

I tried a little urban offroading with them Sunday on some very slick wet mud. As long as I was in 4H I could steer, but other than that I just plowed straight ahead with the wheels cut all the way over. They're building new trails along the bayou north of I10 at Studemont. It's a fun little area to drive around. You can drive from Studemont st. to Houston st. without touching pavement. :D

I'm running spidertrax spacers and have done the cab mount chop and if my caster isn't all the way out at 2.6º I rub. I have the OME 3" lift.

that sounds like a blast. i need to try that.

    and i'm saying it isn't easier to fit a 33 on a 3 inch lift :p

at full compression, sitting on the bump stops, a tire will occupy the same exact space in the wheel well, regardless of your lift height, or lack there of.

my opinion is that if you have any major rubbing at any point in your suspension cycle, that your tires don't truly "fit".
think of it like this. if you have 33s on a 3'' lift, and have trimmed your truck so that they never rub when you wheel, no matter what, then if you were to take the lift off, you wouldn't rub at stock ride height either. i guess what it comes down to is the difference between making tires fit, and making tires fit well.

light output is great. height and wind resistance, not so much. took a big chunk of concrete off a beam in a parking garage when i went to see a movie in downtown houston last week.

if you put lights on the roof, the longer the distance the beam pattern is, the better. save the wider spread, shorter distance beams for the bumper.

well, i'm in North dakota until the 21st, but when i get back into town, i'm off the northwest corner of the beltway. apartment is just off the intersection of louetta rd and cutten rd

they do make LED spot beams as far as i know. that would work just fine on the roof. The ones on my roof actually started as driving beams, but with the longer HID bulb, they have a pattern much closer to a spot now.

depends on what you want though. LEDs are much easier to focus and control the beams of, but a high powered HID setup will actually put out more lumens.

and i'm definitely down for a meet!
