    The military will pay for your school - the main reason I wanted to join. Get out of school and have military experience, you are in buddy.

    This. Employers weigh heavily military experience and will always choose prior military service when comparing two job applicants with similar skill sets.

    Whatever you do, make sure you choose a job that has a direct ties to a civilian career.... don't join the Army to be in field artillery and then be angry that your military skills don't necessarily translate to the civilian life.

    I am actually considering re-joining as prior service and going USCG... finish 15 more years and retire.

    Same Mil benefits without fun trips to Afghanistan...

    Everyone in the military joined their particular branch because it offered something the others did not, or could not, and that's a very personal decision. Gotta do your research on what each branch offers, talk to people who have served in each branch, and make that choice for yourself. In my own personal experience, the Air Force and Navy generally offer the most technical jobs where as the Army, Marines, and Coast Guard jobs are more physically demanding. The caveat here is that this is a bit of an over-simplification but accurate.

    This. Artillery buddy decided to go back to school and get his degree in logistics because there aren't many civilian careers that involve firing large projectiles and killing a bunch of people at once.

    I used to live with and play volleyball with some USCG people... They're some hardcore MF'ers.

    Well you can look into avionics, air craft maintenance... communications (computer stuff) translates very well into the civi world

    it is indeed challenging but also pretty damn fun. At my last facility I only really worked about 2 hours a day - the rest of the 8 hours I was on break "destressing."
