    used some calc earlier today for a volumetric calculation of a piece of land we have to level out for our site. got this little valley that leads down to a creek bed. slopes in on both sides and has about a 35 foot elevation change.

    we need to fill in the entire thing with soil to bring it up to grade, and compact/stabilize it to the point that part of this plant can be built on it.

    if we had laser scans, i could just hit the go button on the computer and it would calculate our volume, but it was an add on to the project, so all we have is a grid of survey points. gotta take those points, generate a series of irregular curves, and then find the volume above the curves.

    we're talking about 10 million dollars worth of fill soil being put in, so deviding things up into squares and triangles isn't quite precise enough ;)

    how's that work with dense tree covered maryland? so many damn trees there that it was hard to even walk down to the creek at the bottom.
