    People that live in Houston...

Where are you preferred day trip spots? I am new to the area and I want to get out and off-road and do some nice camping. I feel like so far I have not found anything too desirable that's close.

    Thanks!

Any trails, locations that you prefer? It's a pretty big place.

If you are into backpacking, lone star hiking trail is nice

about the only thing to do around here with your truck is to go down to the beach and cruise around. I like the sargent area, but that gets pretty boring if you're not into kayak fishing or even beach fishing.

Wheels, tires, intermittent wipers, better rearview mirror...
A nice little day trip for picnic and a drive in the country would be Brazos Bend State Park. Lots of alligators live there, so bring your camera. But there's no off-road, it is all paved.

Within Sam Houston National Forest, I recommend the Four Notch loop on the Lone Star trail (for hiking and camping). That's a little more specific than what was already said.

Apparently Galveston is one of a very few places in the USA where you can drive right out onto the beach where the swimmers are with your truck. So that's a good off-roading day trip. I usually camp in the state park just south of town.
