Ya definitely more work than the CJ. That one was two driveshafts, the t-case, transmission and that's about it.

Simple three speed transmission before I swapped to the five speed

    Tiny transferase

Hell yeah, that lightweight flywheel is going to feel awesome! Trucks going to rev from idle to redline in like a second :burnrubber: and it'll definitely help compensate for turning all that extra mass in the transfer case. I'm excited to see it go! Really hoping to see it at an open track day at COTA one day. Might inspire me to start throwing money at the wife's FRS to make it a track car!

Hopefully it goes smoothly for you, if there's anything I can do just give me a shout!

Nice pics! Yeah I forgot to mention the driveshafts have to be taken out.. Duh :p
The tranny/tcase in the taco stay together so you just drop the whole unit. Completely impossible without a trans jack..

I was disappointed when the clutch started slipping, but then I remembered, oh yeah lightweight flywheel time, and I wasn't as sad anymore:D
Should pull like an animal after I get everything put back in. Gonna be hard to keep my foot out of it during the clutch break in process. I'd love to take it out on the COTA track once I get all the bugs worked out. Been working on tracking down a stock ecu to send off to have it flashed with the TRD tune. Im fairly confident all my leaning out issues are UCON related. Seems like the UCON either works flawlessly, or is nothing but trouble.. I've heard those little FRS's are super fun to drive! Was looking at those a while back! Does your wife have an auto or the 6spd? or did they only offer these with the 5spd? cant remember..

Thanks buddy! I really appreciate it! Hoping it all goes well, really would like to have this in my book of skills since I have another manual that will need a clutch one day. Seems like replacing a clutch is tedious and time consuming, but generally pretty straight forward if you have the right tools and take your time

Thanks, that thing was a beast and a pig. 1 hour driving = 1 hour in maintenance. I definitely learned a lot though.

How long is the break in?
Have you checked eBay for an ECU?

It's a lot of fun to drive! Car and Driver said it's the most fun slow car to drive fast and I completely agree. I wanted the 6 speed and she was ok with it but we practically stole the one we got. It was a demo car with 1990 miles, loaded, 5 year 100k warranty, and nearly 10k off compared to new. It wasn't exactly what we wanted but it was too good a deal to pass up.

I think you're right, it's labor intensive but it doesn't look too difficult. Definitely a good skill to have considering you have two manual tacos!

I remember you telling me about this! Thats crazy!:bananadead:

I think its about 1000-1500 miles of city driving taking it easy.

Yes, checked ebay, no 6spd 4wd for 2013-14 trucks. Did find one out in commifornia in a wrecking yard. Thinking i may pull the trigger on that today or tomorrow..

Ive always wanted to take one of these for a spin. Looks like theyre super lightweight and nimble, would make for a great daily driver! I wouldve done the same thing! Sounds like yall got a great deal

Crossing my fingers I don't run into any hiccups! The amount of money I'm going to save over the long run is going to be well worth it!

    Dat Jeep life

    phuuuuuck... I couldn't do it.

Well.. eventually I'll have to, I guess... not looking forward to that.

Good luck with that one, hope you get that all figured out sooner than later bud

It does feel very light and nimble. I've gotten onto it a few times in the corners and it'll make you grin for certain. She DD's it and usually gt about 34 MPG, not bad

Doing your own work is mind-bendingly cheaper. It's also really nice knowing you did that, ya know? I love that feeling of accomplishment when I can stand back and look at a well-done project with a cold beer. I've done drugs that didn't make me feel as good.

Yeah it's gonna be a real struggle. I'm in boost everywhere I go now!

You planning on a blower? or just gonna put a better clutch in whenever the stocker gives out?

Thanks man! Carparts.com is a good resource if you're ever looking for hard to find things.. Loginfailed over in the S/C thread pointed me to it, and it is great!

That's awesome! I bet its loads of fun to sling into the corners. After lowering the rear of my taco, I have been surprised how planted it feels whenever I stick it in the corners. SO much more fun to drive with a lower COG. 34mpg is damn impressive! What kinda motor do those have in them?

I completely agree. Knowing that you did it yourself, and it's done right provides so much more peace of mind. Im stupid OCD so I know when I do something, it's gonna be 100%. The best part is definitely the feeling of accomplishment like you said. Way more addicting and much better feeling than the drugs I've done too :p

I'm doing this (drunk and) on my phone so bear with me.

    I'm jelly.

I'll probably be doing a bit of both. I'll eventually swap out the clutch plate and add a heavy flywheel. I'd also love to add a blower.

I'll keep that store bookmarked. I'm always hunting for oddball shit.

Ours has the same engine the WRX's come with, the 4cyl boxer. It even says Subaru all over it and in a ton of places under the hood. Crazy thing is the whole car is so much lighter than the WRX. It's also RWD which is just re-damn-diculous. It's an absolute blast to throw at corners. It's not especially forgiving, but, of you got the right line, it's impressively quick. I, too, am a bit amazed by the constant 34 mpg.

We should do drugs and work on trucks. It's the only logical next step in our addictions.

Sig worthy, and words to live by lol :D
    Count me in AF

From everyone ive talked to, ive heard the heavy flywheels are the shit if you offroad, or have larger than stock tires. Seems like a no brainer!

The fact that its so light and rwd, is what makes that a drivers car. Hard to beat that combo! Those little subie engines are great also, the mpg is just incredible. Never had any idea it was that good

Hey man, I'm open to new experiences. I'll try anything twice.

The Subaru hook really led me in. I got no ragrets with that car. Once I drop in some boost and race suspension it's going to be hell on wheels!

Sounds like a good plan of attack to me! Let me know when youre ready lol

The toyota frs and the subie brz and the scion whatever its called are all the same thing right? Same motor and all? Seems weird they would make three of the same cars, and then just brand them slightly differently. Which one do yall have again?? Seems like a remember reading about a twin turbo setup for those recently.. now that would be a solid start

They're literally the same exact car except for color options and the emblem on the hood and trunk.

And the Subaru version costs about $8k more for... Reasons?

We've got the (discontinued) Scion FR-S. Because it's got that Scion emblem it's supposedly with more.

If I'm going to boost that thing, I'd prefer to supercharge it. I'm fairly certain there's a supercharger option for that engine. If not, I'll be happy turbocharging it. I love that whistle.
