    I gotcha

My thoughts: options are options. More gears means you can better match RPM to wheel-speed. Plus having a few smaller gears at the end of the transmission means less shifting to 4High between obstacles. I find myself in 4th, 5th, and 6th in 4Low a lot between slow sections and faster areas. Especially at HF. Hell 4th in 4Low feels like 1st in 2High.

All very good points I had not thought of and a off the shelf Alison would be cheaper

What model transmission? What vehicle could you find them in? I'll help keep an eye out if you want.

There all really available around me if I was to do this. Just was thinking this might be an easier cheaper way for me and I could drink beer to the sounds of my favorite diesel

Yeah the electrical bit has me concerned as well.. i think it will be do-able, just gonna take some serious research and studying of some wiring diagrams. Do you know if the mercedes wiring diagrams are easily obtainable? A factory service manual would be worth it's weight in gold

No kidding, gonna need to put a stronger rear axle in at the very least.. i wonder how the IFS up front is going to do with all that torque..

This would be awesome! If its offroad only, maybe throw a crawl box in there just for the heck of it and then you can use all six of those gears

The D4D has been around for a while, bout time they figure out Americans love diesel trucks. Dad thing is, I'm sure they're only doing that to compete with the Colorado.

Think I'm going to stick with the Mercedes-Benz.

    Cool!

I'm excited for these engine swaps man. Going to be seriously unique. Are you going to do the RCLT first or the engine first?

I really need to get the dimensions of the 4.0 and the Mercedes. It's two cylinders longer than stock, hope it'll fit.

I hear ya! Getting pulled in several directions myself. I need to focus my attention on one little thing at a time and work myself to the bigger projects.
