    Hello, new member here.

Just picked up on a whim a 2006 4x4, 2.7l, manual, standard cab, base model with 207k. It had a frame swap at some point. I didn’t do a ton of research on this particular truck but am familiar enough with cars, trucks, heavy equipment, marine diesels, etc. to know if something is garbage or not. I just gave it a real good shakedown test drive and crawled all around it.

It runs like a champ. Everything is tight. No wobbles or clunks. Good brakes. Not drips of fluid or grease squirting out anywhere. Smooth on the highway, snappy in-town.

Only thing I need to do is swap out the headlights. Someone tried restoring the plastic a time or two and they are too far gone so out they go.

This is a spare/backup/farm truck for us. Wife has a Rubicon daily driver, and I am in a 21 F150 for mine. Because of all the tools and gear I carry in my truck it just seemed simpler to have the Taco around so I don’t need to empty out the Ford every time I need to hit the feed store or something. My wife can use it to transport stock to her store since we just moved its location and now have all her back stock in a shipping container out back and it ain’t easy getting anything in/out of the Rubi.

Plus our daughter who is almost driving age and has a growing passion for surfing and snowboarding can use it to her delight next year.

Paid $6500 for it. How did I do?

Look forward to gleaning all the collective knowledge here

Sounds like you got a great deal. For what it’s worth I just replaced the headlights on my 06 with TYC brand CAPA certified headlights for $60 each from Rock Auto and I’m happy with them. I figured for a truck this old not worth spending hundreds on OEM headlights.

2.7 may be different from 4.0

and Toyota does seem to have made reliable 4bangers even if not powerful. Which can be changed.

so to be manual and 4x4 for that price seems hard to go wrong.
