Wiring harnesses are typically Mexican... they were on my '03 Tundra.

2nd Gens were made in Fremont up until 2009 or 2010 when it moved to San Antonio. The plant was shut down in 2010, and part of the facility was reopened by Tesla (and Toyota in partnership) in October 2010.

That's what the flag wavers always fall back on.
"Well, the profits go to Japan!"

Ya... all $200 per car that Toyota actually profits.

The dealership makes more than Toyota off of each car sold.
Hell... the salesman's commission is possibly more than Toyota makes off of each car sold.

So between the salesman, dealership and their employees, and the factory workers and managers, a LOT more money is circulated back into the US economy than goes to Japan.

    And profits going "to Japan?"

Not all of them... the bulk of the profits go to the stockholders. If the flag wavers have any mutual funds, they are probably getting some money from Toyota ;)

    I don't disagree.

When the "imports" started building in American factories...and the US builders started using imported parts...

    the flag waving became moot.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Right now they are probably the most american made trucks out there. Back in the day no, but now yes. You will always have ignorant domestic drivers like that, even if you show them proof they never believe it, stuck in their ways and afraid to let go, the truth would burn them too much.

I can't say those guys are ignorant...most understand the structure.

To them, a truck "made in America" means:
    American company
    American worker
    American factory

even if many of the parts are outsourced to other countries.

And keep in mind...many of the "buy American" crowd are union guys, or from a union family. Some see the "imports" as a threat to their union.
