How are the 95's with the V6

It all depends just how you plan to use the truck .

Never haul any cargo the 4 cylinder should be fine

In my case 400 pound payload is a light load.

I wouldn't buy a tacoma that has a frame reinforced by some joe-blow. If you ever find a 95-04 with a replaced frame, no current rust, and otherwise well maintained, you should not take as long as you did if the price is right(no offense). Most tacomas that are a good deal will sell within 24-48 hours, just FYI.

 

That guy (1st post) told me the only time I could come down was Sat/Sun because he works full time and has school at night. He played games. Something wasn't right there. 8:00 on a Sun night his grandfather wants it. We spoke in the morning and I was all set to pick it up

It is not so much how much weight it can handle It is how fast the truck can merge with 1000 pounds in the bed

I have had a pallet of wood bricks not something I would recommend .

If there are any first generations that don`t have repaired frames in this part of the world most likely they get parked From Oct 1st to May 1st since they were bought

There are quite a few good welders like me that you would call Joe Blow because I no longer needed to keep my Section 9 certs current

 

You can tell by looking at the texture of the frame. If, under the paint, it is all pitted, scaly and flaky looking or the texture isn't smooth, there's something wrong. Then look for other parts, such as rusted bolts and underside of cab floor, spare tire, leaf springs, differential

Disregard the timing/water pump being changed, my mistake. It has the chains. Nice guy to speak with. Basic service was done, but nothing major. Oil changes etc. The frame was pro welded for $525 in two places I believe. As for the value, I think around 3900 or so. What's your take??

Nice looking truck, but the frame was already welded twice (due to frame rust I presume?) indicating that this truck may have more frame rust issues over time (rust is like cancer, really)
Then the rockers seems to be shot on one side too.

I find the asking price a little high for a frame that may be badly rusted on some places, especially given it has been welded twice (rusted through?). Then you will have some bodywork to do and maybe some more frame repair work
Depending on the rust and quality of frame repair, I'd say around 3000 - 3500

Ask for pictures of the frame and the rockers and any rust spots

Your question here leads me to believe you need to spend sometime researching prior to buying and can make some sellers leery. Not trying to be mean here. Also the only bad vehicle purchase I have ever made was when I was in a hurry. Be patient and good luck!

If you are in NY, I'd say definitely stick it out and find one with a new frame. If the old frames rusted so bad, I don't think it would be a good idea to buy a Tacoma with an old frame in this part of the country.

 

Definitely needs a hammer test, but I'd pass

Be patient and wait for a better truck to show up

 

Any of this era Tacoma no matter where it lived it`s life .

Mine came from Central Texas

Bring it to the Northeast USA one needs to keep after the frame or park it all winter.

One or two winters exposed to this brutal liquid brine is enough to cause some major issues.

Then the jury is still out on the replacement frames .

Now days a 1/2" of snow brings so much salt

Then the fact that a 2000 Tacoma has seen at least 16 winters

Some of us are lucky and building a new frame is just a matter of time .

Want a Rust free truck look south of I 40 well west of the flood zone .

 

So true...if and when I find one (will probably be shipped in or I will drive up to 5 hours) I will take very good care of it. I would fluid film it completely too

 

I was searching and just saw that he listed his 95 again. So I sent him a message and he said his grandfather bought a jeep instead early last week. He said he tried to find my number, but to no avail. I personally erase my call log every day. He was originally asking 6500 a few weeks ago, but now he is asking 5800 (with stock rims/tires) and I said I would do 5500 if I decided. If I want the new rims and new grabber tires, I'd offer him $5850 (he will ad new rims/tires if the price is right)

Selling my 1995 Toyota Tacoma. 4x4 with the 3.4L v6. It has just over 200k miles. It had the frame recall and a fresh paint job, 100% clean and rust free. This truck is mechanic owned... synthetic oil changes every 4k miles.
Also has a list of new parts including, new battery, new starter, brakes all the way around, new plugs and wires, timing belt and water pump done at 195k miles. It has a diamond plate bumper with tow receiver, flowmaster exhaust system and a K&N cold air intake. Sprayed bed liner as well.
Engine and transmission run flawlessly, runs strong and hits every gear. 4x4 works great.
