right now,. purely pleasure. Camping (no towing), taking my downhill bike places, and just driving. BUT, we should have kids in a few years, so thats a factor, and Im pretty sure I will end up wanting to tow something someday. Right now, Im thinking about a 3 year lease on a 2.7 access cab, because is a decent price right, and then decide then what I want to do with the flexability. If not Im doing a 5 year lease on the double cab and just buy it out

In this day and age there is virtually no "break-in" period. When I bought my 04 4Runner(new) I might have gained about 1mpg extra after about 5K miles. When I bought my 10' taco(new) the salesman told me that the factory test runs each motor and that they come virtually "broken-in" already. I don't know if he was blowing smoke up my ass or not, but, once again, I gained 1mpg extra after about 5k miles.

I have about 12k miles right now and I avg 20mpg. One thing I have noticed is that I definitely get a little better mpg with higher octane gas. Is it worth the extra cost? dunno, kinda an experiment I'm doing right now(bad timing).

From what I have seen posted here and from my own experience so far you should expect between 18 - 20 MPG with a 4x4 v6. Since some have stated they are getting ~14 MPG it may be wise to check with owners in your area to see what they are getting for mileage.
BTW: if your planning on kids in the near future get a DC, the AC has limited space for car seats etc.

Myself and seven friends went to a NHL game in December, it was a 6 hour drive, I drove my 08 Taco4x4, my buddy drove his 08 Chev Silverado ext cab 2wd. We both have 80 litre tanks and I had to fill up after 5 hours driving at 65 to 70 mph. My buddy didn't fill up till we where on the way home. For a full size he killed my gas milage.

I might get a Silverado, na no more junk for me, I'll stick to the pig.

    Mr Doug2000,
#1 You live in a flatland area, no hills or mountains to climb, better mpg
#2 Its a 2 WD Chevy truck, better mpg, less weight, smaller engine
#3 Chevy trucks use a low 3.23, or 3.42 diff ratio, better mpg, less power

I am talking about full size 4x4 pickups with serious engines and gear ratios
Look at the Dodge Hemi, it gets 12 mpg.
Chevy does get good mpg, but look at what you get, its a truck with no front frame, just held together with thin sheet metal

The silverado has a 22 gallon tank, that's 83 liters, traveling from London on the 401 to Ottawa, I wouldn't turn onto the 416 without getting gas as there are no stations for 80km. My buddy was still well over a quarter tank and I think he didn't get gas till we where back to the 401 near Bellville, that's like 700 km, he said it is suprizingly good on gas, it has that cylinder deactivation.

If you look closer it'll say something like 10-22 depending on driving habits and location in small print under the big numbers.
