Besides accelerating gently and coasting toward stoplights, using ethanol-free petrol increased my MPG to about 21.

you are still going to fast, you want to keep it under 65 mph on the freeway. you have to be real easy on the throttle. i get around 19.5 mpg consistently city driving in my 06 prerunner.

Well that kind of math just makes me MORE sad. :( If my dollar's worth less, it buys less. And believe me it's buying less. Less gas, less food, less clothing.

Paper dollars lose value; silver dollars do not. I own the latter, so I am able to buy just as much, if not more.

Silver most definitely does lose value. It's still not back to it's peak price in the 1980s ($49.50/oz). It's a commodity that fluctuates with demand.

At least silver is far more likely to hold or increase its value (more than doubled in price over the last year FYI) as opposed to paper money which is guaranteed to lose value year after year after year.

But unfortunately this has nothing to do with the fuel economy of the V6 Tacoma. :D

I have an 06 DBL cab TRD Off Road V6 that use for work. 198,323 miles. Still on original size rubber, however, I installed the TRD Air Induction, and TRD cat-back exhaust systems. I have averaged between 19 and 21 going to and from a job (CRUISE CONTROL 65). I am a pilotcar for oversize loads. When working I get excellent performance, and average 16-24 mpg depending on speed my load runs, winds, and if I have to run roof sign. There is pic of my trk on this site

But the price is in new dollars, not old.

    You're still earning them right?

Well blame our government and especially the federal reserve for that one. We have a huge debt to pay off and it is the goal of the fed to inflate the money supply so it is easier to make payments on it. the downside is is that it fucks over every american, and really every person in the world since the dollar is the worlds reserve currency. it does help the government, and the big banks that control everything.

That's cause they are cheaper, more durable, higher payload and get better gas mileage in the W/T package.

I'd be worried about poking stuff through my bed if I worked out of it the way some work out of their trucks.

Though out here, a lot of guys work out of d50s rangers old toys and toy 1 tons. Full size/tacoma don't fit anywhere and are too high to load when you're as short as most of the folk round here.

Bilstein 6112 up front set at 1.59" lift. 5160 out back with Icon progressive AAL, factory overload still in for 2". ARE CX Shell. Alpine audio with JL speakers all around, cut holes and mounted some 6.5" speakers in the access doors. 6k 35w HID, K&N, Factory exhaust but cut to point back not to the side to keep it clear of obstacles when backing OR (already destroyed one;). Pop & Lock tailgate lock keyed to truck key. Vented and drilled rotors (EBC rotors and yellow pads died in a yea lol), sound deadening everywhere. Illuminated 4x4 switch. Hoping to add a keyless entry push button ignition setup, and some Katzkin Seats with heaters soon.

The Ethanol content of gasoline will reduce your mileage. This is typically why you see a decrease in the winter as the EPA mandates that the Ethanol content of Gasoline be increased from November through February.

For those who are always getting bad mileage or poor mileage in the summer, it could be related to the fact that some refineries run a consistent ethanol rich mixture as to what is likely a cost saving measure (corn is cheap). You could try switching station brands, but in some regions it is cheaper for refineries to buy from their competitors and sell it as their gas, than it is to pipe/truck in their house brand. So even though you go to Shell, you might be getting Giant gas.

95% of my driving is not freeway and I get between 17.5 and 18.4 MPG I am sure I could get 20+ easily if I drove freeways but mine is 2WD. Shouldn't be that much of a difference.

I just did ~280 miles and got 21.7MPG, but the reason I'm perplexed is this... That included 3 people + 2 medium-sized dogs and luggage/outdoor gear in the bed driving on extremely windy Highway 1 in Northern California where slowing to at most 25 around a corner then having to accelerate uphill was a common event.

Do these RWD trucks do better with some weight applied over the rear wheels???

I had the rear 4-leaf TSB done.
