I am over 20+ all the time. Its how you drive, the maintenance on the truck, the fuel. everything plays the role.
Flat road with throttle steady and speed around 50 MPH my 4x4 can hover between 24 - 28 MPG. If I get bad fuel drops to 20 - 23 MPG. I run 93 octane all the time so I can ride low RPMS with out pinging.
 So not sure how people are getting such horrible mileage on their trucks.

My mileage has been steadily declining. I am at about 18 now. I have the truck in today to get new plugs and flush the throttle body and am hoping that helps a bit. There isn't really much else we can do. They just don't get great mileage.

There is nothing to calculate, scangauge does it for me. ;)
My trips to work (30 miles) are averaging at 25-26 MPG my trips back from work are around 23-24MPG.

BTW why would anybody lie about their mileage?:notsure:

Meh, the reverse of that would be true as well. 80% of the people complaining about shitty mileage don't realize they drive like assholes.

    :burnrubber:

Seriously tho, why is it when someone is doing something you can't/aren't they must be lying.

    I'm Mr. Serious.

As an alternative, we may be well aware of why we get poor mileage, and our driving style, and not care. That is a possibility I'd like to just heave out there.

The other thing to add here is used vehicles. Who knows how the person before you drove it. I bought mine and it had 15k miles on it. From what was done on the outside and the fact the guy traded it in after a year for a new Tacoma just led me to believe it was an older guy who babied the truck. The dealer I bought it from also sold it brand new to the guy and they dropped some hints. Assumptions tho, I know.

But, if you buy a used truck that has had the hell driven out of it you're never going to get as good as mileage with one that was babied and broken in correctly.

Totally, I get and understand that. That we me 10 years ago. Gas was 1.49 and I didn't care that my lifted Ram got 9 MPG, I could afford it. I could also afford to replace the tires every 16-24k lol. But those aren't typically the guys complaining about their mileage ;)

I never drive less than 75mph, traffic allowing, and I don't care about the gas mileage...otherwise I'd drive 45mph, and then I might as well have one of those POS Prius's!!!!

Those stickers are averages. We get 16 city and 20 highway, average. Some people in the city will get 12 and some will get 18. Some people on the highway will get 16 and some will get 24. A lot of stuff to consider ..

    Temperature
    Tire size
    Acceleration time
Miles spent in OD under 2k RPM
Time spent getting up to speed

    and then the biggest,

    Driving habits

You don't seriously think every Toyota rolling off the line whether in Florida or Montana being driven by any individual is actually suppose to get 20 miles per gallon on the dot do you?

Filling your tank, setting your odometer to zero, driving until you need to fill up again and dividing the miles on your odometer by the amount of gas it took to fill it up is how you calculate MPG - this is what you would compare to the gas mileage estimates that were on the window sticker when you bought the truck. Having a scangage caluculate the MPG you are getting over a certain 10, 20, 30 mile stretch is something totally different - no sense arguing about or trying to compare the two.

How's the ride with 33's? I'm considering them. I need to add the 3" lift as well. Thanks, Joel

If you're worried about mileage, you need to stay the hell away from both.

my last 2 tanks have been 21 MPG, with the one before being 20 MPG. V6 4X4 Access cab.

Yes it is possible to get 20 MPG BUT not by driving as you would like. To achieve so, I had to go approx 63-64 mph on highway driving, and use my brakes the less often it is possible during city driving. Beside that, I have done everything normally, including wide open throttle highway entries, WOT passing, some hard accelerations when needed...

Warmer temp also helps a lot.

My overall average (since I have the truck) is about 18 MPG though.

If I drive straight highway at about 65-70 to work (20 mi. each way) I get a consistent 21.5 mpg. If I go on a road trip and set the cruise at about ~78, I get 18-19mpg. I'm also not hard on the gas, but I'm not a grandpa either. I get about 18-19 city too. Seems like the mileage has gotten better as the mileage on the truck has increased. I'm at 10k now.
