It's a midsize pickup. It should get better MPGs... If I didn't care about mpgs I would have gotten a V8 dually or a Hummer...

Slow down to 65 mph and you'll get another 1-2mpg more. Wind resistance is a bitch which is why a lot of the newer trucks have little ground clearance and are not running large heavy tires.

With my stock sr5 (non-offroad) and manual trans I pull 20 mpg when I cruise at 60-62mph on flat ground even with a couple dirtbikes in the back.

Usually I say screw it and go 75mph and get about 16-17 with bikes in the back, 18.change or so when it's empty. Going up mountains the mileage goes down a bit but not too bad.

I checked my mpg a couple weeks ago and made it 380 miles from full to low fuel light. Mix of highway and city. I have a 07 DCSB 4x4 with 160k

I haven't been able to Crack the 20 mile barrier. 18.3 was the best I could do. I know speed was the biggest factor in even getting that.

Tepends a lot on the outside temperature, gas, mods...I'm at 240mls and have 1/2 a tank left right now. I did not drive on the highway once this time...guess I will be getting 360 to the tank

^^^^all these. I LOVE my truck, but it's pathetic that it doesn't get any better gas mileage than a full size truck. Then again, that's why the new Chevys and Rams might as well be cars when it comes to stock tires and ride height.

I'm getting about 17 combined with a leveling kit and 265 70r17 Hankook ATMs. I can get near 20 on the highway going around 65 on flat ground. In the mountains, I'm lucky to get 16 mpgs.

Get 20+MPGs in my eyes has so many factors.
Many of those factors are things such as weather, terrain, traffic, altitude, tires+pressure, modifications, maintenance, speed, driver, and gas type. Among others.

Getting 20 mpg is easy! Averaging 20+ is a different ball game.
    Background info:
    2007 Toyota Tacoma
    4.0l v6 DCLB automatic 87007 miles.

Before lifting with my michelins LTX ms2 (35lbs tire) I was averaging 17.5 mpg all day every day. I have a 2 mile commute to work below 25 mph, 7 stop signs/lights. If I do any highway driving it will likely be only highway(trip mileage). My all highway average over a 6000 mile trip I averaged 21.8 mpg. Or 358 miles to 16.4 gallons. Mostly I-95. My ave speed was 66 mph at 1945-1975 rpms.
My averages did not change after lifting 2.5".

After putting on 285/70/17 my mpg dropped dramatically (62 lbs tires). But I knew that would happen until the ecu adjusted to the tires. My first tank was 13.3 mpg. After putting 1000 miles on the tires, adjusting the pressures up to 42 psi, correcting the distance on the ultra gauge for the additional tire height and summer gas is here. In town driving to and from work I average 15.8 mpg in town. Only highway driving, I average 20.2 mpg. Or 326 miles to 16.1 gallons. Ave speed 69 mpg at 1945-1975 rpms via ultra gauge (speedo on dash is wrong now still thinks I am doing 66 mph, and odometer on dash is wrong now for distance)

My mixed driving mpg over 10k miles is 18.3 mpg.

I also have a k&n drop in filter and have removed the secondary air filter.

    Hope this help someone else.

Here is what I learned from my UltraGuage recently regarding speed vs fuel economy. These results are instant readout during flat terrain constant throttle driving. All results were taken after the vehicle was thoroughly warmed up on a wind free 70f day. One way to increase economy significantly on shorter runs would be to install pre-heating systems to bring the vehicle to operating temps asap.

    03-30-2014

    Speed MPG Load RPM
    45mph 32.7 26.1 1775
    50mph 32.2 26.3 1975
    55mph 29.9 28.0 2075
    60mph 27.3 31.4 2350
    65mph 26.5 32.2 2525
    70mph 23.9 35.7 2800

My commute is 10 miles of 45-50 speed limit, and I keep it to 50, your results show I'm at the sweet spot.

On a 10 mile commute a block heater would help significantly. I'm betting you'd net 2-3mpg from a 1 hour preheat summer and 4-5mpg in the winter :)

The thing is.... alllllll of your information is skewed / irrevelant.... you are running a 1st gen 97 taco w/ the 3.4 w/ manual trans and probably manual hubs ... vastly different, and a much better platform for hypermiling than the 2nd gen v6

Not really, most vehicles are geared to produce very similar results speed vs mpg. Most vehicles get best mpg at 50 and it goes down from there.

    Hardly *irrelevant

I am only getting 16.5 to 17 mpg in city driving.
When I get out on the open road it does better.

Highway test is done at 55 MPG on new vehicle, stock straight out of factory. So to get 21 MPG on v6 4x4 on Highway people needs to be in 50-55 MPH range all the time. If you above that stop complaining about MPG's because you are out of range.
I had my truck for 8 years and it still does 21+ on highway.
Easy city driving drops to 18 MPG on average. (those numbers are summer on premium)
This has nothing to do with Toyota, those are laws of physics.

My fuelup yesterday showed 23mpg. 2014 TRD V6 dblcb about 6100 miles on it. no mods Just calm normal driving all interstate. Mileage was 18.5 or so when I first got it Dec, 24 2013. Accumulating miles on the engine and summer blend gas, mileage is improving. The performance chips don`t work, if they did EVERBODY would be using them.

I commute about 50 miles per day and I've tried to see how high I can get MPGs on my truck, which currently has around 1600 miles on the clock (stock aside from a bed cover). You can see where I'm currently at in my signature block and I'm pretty confident it'll get past the 20mpg mark if I drive it accordingly. That said, I've dusted off my wife's trusty old 2006 Corolla with 180k miles and that'll be my commuter moving forward...money saved at the pump = more stuff for the truck.

2014 TRD OR with 7,000 miles. I get 21 consistently. I go the speed limit up to about 65. We have a couple of highways here with a 75 MPH speed limit and I still go 65. People are not happy with me, but mileage is somewhat important to me and I would go 55 if I could. I also take it easy off of traffic lights. Piss people there too. I piss a lot of people off.
