Yeah full size trucks get the same mileage but they are full size and not all that great for 4 wheelin or Mall crawling. I could have bought a Tundra for the same money or even less in some cases But dammmmmmm Thats a big foot print. I wish these late model Tacoma trucks were as small as the 70's trucks.

16.5 - mixed driving. it really is a 50/50 mix. always easy on the throttle. my other car is for going fast.

18.5 - best, highway, cruise control, 75mph. burned 3/4 tank of fuel for the data.

    pissed. 4x4 long bed.

I just got 20.56mpg. Lots of Highway driving, cruise control and kept it under 2000 rpm. I also had to use 4wd on part of the way back for about 40 miles or so.

stock with stock tires and drive like a grandma... then you should see 20 mpg

I've never seen 20 mpg even while stock because I refuse to drive 60 mph in a 70 mph zone!

^I have one... but can't tell if it was caused by the drop in or the bigger tires and lift... my mileage is all jacked up...

On way from CA to WA, I averaged 20.7mpg on the highway going around the speed limit (~65).

My cumulative average is shown below (18.6) which does include quite a bit of city driving mixed with highway driving.

In fact, my mileage has been quite consistent and is not as bad as I would have anticipated.

My truck is stock with stock tires but I've been in 4x4 rather frequently too.

I can not get less than 18.5 (probably around a 1 mpg margin of error due to the way different pumps insert) driving my kids to school and only hitting the highway for 3-4 miles of about a 20 mile round trip, and it's hilly here.
Practice makes perfect. I'm kind of ashamed, I usually peg it well over the numbers on the windshield.

There are many threads on driving efficiently. But the truck is a little behind on technology. Can't work miracles.

    I don't get that attitude.
WHat it says is "stupid people buy trucks"... I'm too stupid to care about efficiency and cost per mile. Especially with a tacoma that has such limited utility. Not like you're hooking a 40 foot gooseneck to it and hauling the livestock to the stock yards 3 times a year. Its a commuter car with an extra large trunk.

I hope no one that has ever said that has ever washed.. well .. like.. anything, follows maintenance schedules.. any of that other "bs". Grow out the mullet and throw the goat horns. Live fast Die young!

Nah.. Kind of going on a rant. But you get it.

I have always tracked my mileage... A game of sorts... something else to do with my Tacoma.

Why aren't more of you signed up at FUELLY.COM so you can see and show here your average mileage?

My Tacoma is a 2010, almost 14 months old, almost 20,000 miles on the odometer... a V-6, Double Cab, Automatic, 4WD, Off Road TRD. Rugged Trail T/As (now over half worn).

The best mileage, so far: 19.2 all highway, on Mexican gas (no eco additives)
The last recent all highway: 18.3 on Costco gas (tires now at 35 psi).
The last fill up (half tank or 9 gallons): 18.0 (was mostly highway).
Around town, stop and go eats up fuel: 15.5 to 16.5
Combined city and highway: 16.5 to 17.5
Worst mileage (4 wheeling not included): 15.0 was in town, and one tire was low on air, I discovered.

    back to bone stock.
i just drove from san francisco area to texas and back.

we got tankfuls with MPG running from 17.8 to 21.1. the only difference being how fast we drove. the best tank, we were reving under 2k. buzzing along at 68 mph.

gas mileage drops off dramatically with increasing speeds.

Small or big tires, in the northern part of america, you will not get any kind of good mileage at this time of the year!
